I was shaving Monty's pads today and I hit a tickle spot. He is an easy boy to groom so, I was on the floor with him leaning over him. Well, we got to a tickle and he kicked........the clippers went flying and hit me right in the nose. That 40 blade hit me right on the side of the nose. I have a nice little cut but, better than a big cut! I get hurt in the oddest ways So, advice if clippers fly, jump away Kathy |

Oh my!
I saw a court show where a woman was getting an eyeliner tattoo and the woman jerked and the tattoo "artist" dropped the tool... and it proceeded to deeply tattoo a line on the customer's nose. |
That situation sounds alot worse!
I only have a scratch that will soon heal! |
Oh Kathy!
You need a safety wrist strap like they put on the Wii controllers when people where throwing them through their TVs. Or maybe a helmet! |
OUCH! |
Ouch! |
That sounds like something that would happen to me, Kathy. Hope your cut heals soon. |
Glad I'm not the only one!
A couple weeks ago I had Zeke up on the grooming table and I was trimming between his pads on his hind paws. He was doing pretty well till I hit that "spot" and he kicked like a mule. Because I was at the right level, he kicked me right in the eye. Really really hard. I had no idea he could kick like that, but I won't forget the next time I trim his pads! Shellie |
I currently do Archies pads with scissors and have to go easy obviously, has anyone tried anything like a nasal trimmer between the pads (I would imagine something like this would not risk cuts at all) and would it cope with the amout of hairs? - is their a dog specialist trimmer for between the pads? |
I trim all my sheepies between the pads with special scissors which are rounded at the ends, but do beware all sheepies have tickely feet and tend to kick out when you are at that stage of grooming. Oh by the way the kick can hurt as well. |
Yeah, count me in as someone who has been mule kicked. I worked with horses for years and never got nailed. I think every OES I own has kicked me in the face at least once
I used to scissor between pads, but one time I used a small clipper and it worked so wonderfully I've never looked back. It's faster, so easier. Even the fosters are OK with it. Not thrilled, but OK I haven't had it kicked into my face - yet. Thanks for the heads up Kristine |
Thanks! - The horse mention reminded me that I do have one of those little cordless trimmers - out in the barn!
I bought it years ago to try on LeAnne's horse Sonny. He, like my horse Pete and Bre's pony Teddy, are rescues and have had assorted issues. Sonny's is scissors and clippers above his head. I thought one of the small cordless ones would work, but he hates it, so we went back to scissors for his bridle path. I need to go out in my supply cabinet out there and dig around. It would be a perfect pad trimmer. |
