My 4 month old puppy's coat is so soft, and he is getting very large (45-50 lbs). Which caused me to have a morbid thought: has any one ever heard of OES pelts being harvested for clothing? I mean, why would Cruella de Vil ever bother to go after Dalmatians, when OES produce such profuse, supremely beautiful jet black and snow white coats! Just wondering.... |

If you look back in the OES.org achives of the "show" in Michigan 2007, I believe there was talk of a place that will spin their hair into yarn. Some member posted pics of scarves and such made from the yarn. It is an interesting thread to check out if you can find it. |

Don't plant that idea in some sick-o's head! It gives me the creeps thinking about using even small rodents (minks, chinchillas...) to make clothing out of. On the other hand, Helen is right about spinning dog hair into yarn. Short puppy hair would be more difficult to spin than the longer undercoat of an adult OES. It would also be tough to get enough combings from one puppy for a project of any size before he started turning gray. |
