Some brands ie Wellness and Canidae do not offer a large breed food...I know some of you guys use them....They look like awesome foods, but I am unsure about trying their food, because it does not specify `Large breed` on the package. My breeder was very specific about using Large breed food, in fact her warranty depends on keeping reciepts.... Maisey turned 1 on Jan 14th, do you think it is essential for it to specify on the bag? Just curious?! |

I think it should say large breed, do to the amount of protein they should have and about their bones?? |
Nah, just read the labels or look the food up online to make sure that you're getting similar fats, proteins, etc. Canidae is one of those "all stages" foods so that's why they don't sell anything different. What don't you like about what you're feeding now? I've found Eagle Pack Holistic Select to be one of the boys' favorite foods an it agrees well with them, too. |
We feed the Eagle Pack Holistic Select standard kibble and canned foods (to a couple)... not the large breed formula. There are more varieties to rotate them on... we feed all 4 of the kibble flavors, moving to a different one when the bag is empty. Not a loose poop in the pack
3Shaggies told me they are coming out with a new Pork formula TREAT soon. http://eaglepack.com/Pages/HS_Treats08.html |
I really have had a hard time picking a food. I started with Blue Buffalo, then went to Nutro...Then after hours of Googling, I switched to Eagle Pack Holistic. The orange bag with the swirls...
Wellness looked like a good food too, as did Solid Gold, and Canidae. Just wanted to know what the deal was with the packaging. Actually I went to the Eagle Pack Website, and they sent me a bottle of stuff to shake on their food, so that it would make her have an easier transition to their food. I thought that was really nice.... I think it is a probiotic enriched formula of some sort... She seems to be doing good on Eagle Pack. Remember my horrible Vet? He sold me Medi-Cal, and like the 3rd or 4th ingredient was corn, and the food was close to 80 bucks a bag... When I asked him, he said he was unfamiliar with "other brands"... I am so glad I found a New Vet...even if she thought Maisey-Blue was a Bouvier... |

Sigh... I ALWAYS forget to do that.
We've been feeding it since April and not once have I remembered! Umm... do you think you might send me a monthly reminder?? |

If a company specifies a dog food for all stages, I wouldn't think so but it's my opinion that if a company says a large breed dog food... that food is specifically for them and it should say and be given to them. |

Panda had a horrible time with yeast after being on antibiotics so long... once we got the problem surgically corrected and the food recall occured, we went to the Eagle Pack Holistic Select foods to help correct the yeast problem. We had tried Hill's Prescription Diet but I didn't like the list of ingredients either- c/d for struvite crystals- first 5 ingredients: Ground Whole Grain Corn, Pork Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Chicken By-Product Meal, Soybean Meal, Corn Gluten Meal... z/d ultra for allergies- first 5 ingredients: Starch, Hydrolyzed Chicken Liver, Soybean Oil (preserved with BHA, propyl gallate and citric acid), Hydrolyzed Chicken, Powdered Cellulose... I know it's helped many dogs but I want mine getting "real" food and not Pork Fat as a second ingredient or "powdered cellulose". What the heck type of "cellulose" is in there? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellulose When we had the food recall, we did some serious home cooking and carefully selected a food that had not been affected. Fingers are crossed that it will always be safe. |
Don't fell bad I forget the coupon as well. Obe is currently eating the duck and oatmeal eagle pack holistic. |
I ordered food yesterday and would have forgotten AGAIN if I hadn't just
read you post! The coupons have at least made to the kitchen table this time |
I have been feeding Canidae but am switching to Blue Buffalo. I was looking for a better light food for Bella, and the Canidae seems to keep her gassy. I will switch Nigel over when this bag is done. It is also too difficult to buy Canidae here. Blue Buffalo is comparable to Canidae and I can get it at Petsmart. I can't find anyone out here who sells Orijen, and I don't know if anyone sells Eagle pack.
I read every ingredient since losing Winston to the poison food from China. This is one that meets all my criteria for dry food. I don't buy any more wet foods. |
