The property has been bought by the Balloon Fiesta and the facility will be torn down and turned into a parking lot!!!! The club isn't small.......6 lane/25 meter pool, hottub, 2 saunas, 2 steam rooms, 2 locker/shwer rooms, big workout area, physical therapy wing, doctor's office, and big aerobics area--hold 50 easily, plus misc offices. We have driven the 27 miles one way just to go to this place. It is open for swimming all the time, not the 2 hours am/pm the city pools are open. The pool is sparkling clean as is the whole facility unlike Defined Fitness' around town who are over booked and always crowded. Our place is great for the older client those with hanging bellies and flabby arms....there are few young studs and studettes during the day. bummed, bummed bummed |

oh i hate that!!!!!!!!!!
my first gym was bought out by 24 hour fitness, close my location and gave the new location 10 miles away....i think not... then my second one went belly up which stinks too because it was between work and home....no excuses not to go.... so now i am in between places myself again....i feel for you susan...good luck in finding something ''better''! |
Hey Susan,
I'm not sure which gym you are talking about, but you might try the Jewish Community Center. I have heard really great things about it. |
Well that just stinks, doesn't it?? |
Scruffy, I had completely forgotten about them! I'm a bit of a pool hog, swimming 120+ minutes at a crack, so not suitable for the crowded places like Defined.
My place is off Alameda literally up against the fence on the SW side of Balloon Fiesta park. It's little know as people think it's associated with the Village Retirement Center, in fact the pool/hottub is displayed in their ads. I suspect the parking lot will be the terminus for the darn Rail Runner out of Los Ranchos. I'm getting to hate that train, the way it sucks up money.....now my pool |
That really stinks I hope something just as good or better is built soon. |
That's a bummer. Any hospitals with wellness centers nearby? |
I haven't quite figured out the usefulness of the Rail Runner either. Once it goes to Santa Fe it might be good, but without a good mass transit system what's the point of being dropped of in the middle of a parking lot on Paseo and 2nd?
Sorry about your pool though. |
Makes as much sense as UNM Pit/Stadium AND airport riders to be dropped off at 2nd and Rio Bravo in the middle of an old alfalfa field, but more recently mud football pit.
I sometimes wonder what the city planners have been smoking? Paula: Yes, one hospital has a health complex, they've talked about adding a pool for 10 years.......but just talk. Another one has freebie membership to Senior members at one of the health centers with multiple locations (3) but those are already overcrowded........and scuzzy. |

Wow, I'm impressed! The only thing I can do for that long is sleep |
LOL! Yeah, I'm pretty good at that too. Actually, fat floats easily so swimming is a lot easier for me than for you skinny people. |
Double bummed. They are closing the pool and tearing down the complex even earlier than first reported. Hopes for a pool are getting tough......one, the JCC, turned out to be an outdoor pool-open 3-4 months. If I win the lottery I'm building my own pool.....one of those endless pools, swim against the current. |
