Losing teeth...

OK, so not remembering anything about puppy teeth....at what point do they start losing teeth?

Pooh bear has a loose one--and I hope it's supposed to be. We noticed that his chewing bone had turned red from blood and promptly took it away and threw it out. I inspected his teeth--believe it or not, he just lays there and lets me play with his mouth--and found the culprit. I don't know how to explain which tooth it is...but it's part of a big one in the back of his mouth.

Should I be worried, or should we wait for the tooth fairy?

They don't normally lose their molars that young.... but you never know. At only 16 weeks Sky lost ALL her front teeth, top and bottom, all on the same day. Within a few days she had all of them back on the top, but she still has none on the bottom. She hasn't lost any molars yet though that I'm aware of. Dancer didn't lose any baby teeth till about 5 and a half months old, and it was more gradual for her. It was at 8 months old before she finally lost the canines.
Thanks willow...I thought that maybe he had broken a tooth on one of his bones, but it's still in tact. It is definately a molar, and I have not noticed any other teeth missing or bloody gums. This dog has no pain threshold that we can see, so if it's bugging him, we'll never know.
I would give him something icy to chew... my dogs love old socks tied in a knot, and frozen. They also love ice cubes, and sometimes i'll put a nylabone in the freezer for them, but they don't like nylabones much anyway.
I put the raw soup bones in the freezer too and that's a tasty pupsicle.
OK, so we're up to 3 that are now gone. 2 molars and one canine. I have 2 out of the 3, but last night while he was chewing the last one out I think he swallowed it. Poor guy. He went berserk last night when the canine came out--running around, furiously drinking water then finally plopped down and passed out. I got him up and into his night time crate and he slept until 9am.

Such a good dog...
Yep- Good Boy Pooh! Just wait until you step on one of those little bad boys- I've done that with both cats now! Ouchie! Ice cubes work great if he'll chew on them- no callories or anything :) Are you having problems with him nibbling on things he shouldn't? My cats always though books were great teething toys!

Karen :)
I had a cat that used to bite books as I was reading them in bed at night. She also used to sneak up on the nightstand and steal the bookmarks right out of the book!
Yep- My senior kitty girl Iris will attempt to nibble on the book if I'm not paying enough attention to her- now that she's grown up, Bell could care less -usually because she's too busy running around the house at mach 10!

Karen :)
Nope. Knocking on wood, he has only chewed on what we give him to chew on! Lost another last night and has a new one coming in next to one of his uper canines..but that one's not ready to fall out yet. At this rate, we should be through by end of week!

By the way, gross or not, I've kept the teeth...I don't know why, but I just felt like keeping them. Am I weird?
Um.. i don't think you're too weird- I've heard of parents keeping their children's teeth- whuy not a pet owner keeping their puppies teeth? As long as you don't do something spooky with them- like put them in a formaldyhde jar and tell scary stories about them to frighten the neighborhood children... "These are the teeth of the ghost dog Tigger..." Sorry- I need to find new ways of amusing myself!

Karen :)
Speaking of teeth... this morning my two girls were playing with each other, and I heard a yelp and saw blood on Dancer's ear and down her chest. I freaked out of course and looked everywhere for the cause, until goofy Sky ambles over with her big goofy mouth open and a bloody hole where a baby canine once was, that wasn't ready to come out yet...lol, so Dancer is fine, and the gummy wonder pup is another tooth short.LOL
We've kept puppy teeth from all of our dogs. I wonder what you get for those from the tooth fairy?
