I have 3 dogs and one of them does the same as yours.. timing and all. Next day fine. |
I'd keep an eye on her as some oes are sensitive to many drugs, especially anything with ivermectin. It can be very dangerous if they carry the mdr1 gene. |

I was just thinking that... If in doubt, you can test: http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/depts-VCPL/ (price is going up in Sept, I think, so if it's something you're thinking you want to do, go ahead and do it before then - it's very simple - you can do it yourself) One of my puppies just came back mutant/normal. Not a surprise. Mom is normal/normal, I had her tested a couple of years ago, but wasn't real concerned. However, when more OES started showing up as carrying the mutation this fall/winter, I asked if they would be willing to test the dog I bred her to (retrospectively, in effect) and he came back mutant/normal (he's a European import, by the way). If ratios hold, 1/2 of my litter should come back mutant/normal. If he had come back normal/normal, there would have been no need to test all of the puppies. Even before any of this started appearing with any frequency, my vet - who is an OES breeder herself - told us we were changing to Interceptor. (no ivermectin, at least) Something to possibly consider. Also, there may be a couple of "clinics" to collect cheek swabs and send them in en masse for a better rate coming to somewhere near some of you this summer. Possibly St Louis in May, New England in June and Milwakee area in July. Will post when I know more. It's not the end of the world, but something to watch for. Even mutant/normal dogs can have some drug sensitivities. Kristine |
