we were walking our 2 puppies today when a car pulls up with a "Bark Busters Home Training" sign on the side of it. I expected the gentleman driving it to try and sell us on some training. Instead what he had to say was disturbing and upsetting: "Aren't those Old English Sheepdog puppies? Would you like a third Sheepdog?" He went on to explain that a client of his got a sheepdog, thinking it "pretty". She is a wealthy woman and rapidly grew bored of the pet, and all the demands having a young dog has. This is the pup's second home, and the guy that was called in to train it wants to try and find it a "fur-ever" home before this lady just dumps it at a pound. He says its from a reputable breeder (but if this is the case, I don't know why the pup hasn't gone back to that breeder for re-homing). I told him that we really could not take a third dog at this time, but that I was a member on this board, and would put out some feelers. I have his contact information. Can anyone help? Please PM me, if so. |

Would they be willing to work with our Rescue? |
How old and what sex.(just being nosey ) If I don't get a foster in this week ,I have room to foster for a rescue that takes him/her. |
Maybe no one will let me foster I am so dumb post said 1 year old sheepie................... |
I don't have any details about the dog in question; I don't know a whole lot about this situation as it isn't my dog.
But I do want to thank everyone for thier PM's and generous offers. I've been in touch with the Fiona with the Georiga OES rescue, and I think she is going to try and take the pup. I'll give Fiona the contact information of everyone that has PM'd me regarding the pup. |
Please pm me , we have just lost our 14yr old. Our house is a very sad place at the moment. |
Fiona asked me to post for her.
She is working on this pup. Rescue has been keeping Fiona busy lately She's the best! |
Fiona and I have been emailing one another several times a day.
She has been in touch with both the gentleman that made me aware of the problem, as well as the owner of the pup. I have forwarded to Fiona all of the PM's and contact information from the folks that expressed interest in helping to give this pup a home. Please realize; this is only one dog of many that are in need of good homes. I'll bet, if people really want to help an OES in need, that Fiona and other members of OES rescues from around the country, could help find that "right companion" for the people that have expressed interest. At this point, please email your local OES rescue, rather than PM me. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to hear from anyone wanting a new loving companion! |
Nice work Allison!

I am not looking to adopt just have room in my heart and home for a foster dog and yea there are lots of nice dogs needing homes... |
Hi Cindy,
Are you sure you are qualified to foster a oes? Are you sure you have the experience and knowledge to handle one? I don't know. What do you think Nita? I think her heart is just to dang BIG. You'll probably try to keep it. We are all so sorry about your loss of Savannah. Zach |
Zach,
Probably not .....mine is being a pain in the butt, because he was raised with two retrievers he would rather retrieve that herd, so I guess I ruined a good dog!!! I took him over my neighbors to help get her sheep back in the field (they escaped) and he was scared of them even the babies!! So I guess I am unfit to have a sheepie in my house. Zach ,thank you for your kind words about Savannah, my heart is broken (maybe a little sheepie girl will help ) Cindy |

Cindy Be careful what you wish for. Rescue organizations from all over the country will show up at your doorstep offering you "foster" girls. Don't feel bad about Guiness' lack of sheep appreciation. When I instinct tested Belle's daughter - Belle being my most avid sheep chaser, ehm, I mean herder of course - she wasn't afraid of them, but she showed minimal interest in actually getting them to move. She did, however, greatly enjoy me moving the sheep, as she heeled nicely along side me It's probably just as well he didn't know what do to with the escaped sheep. Unless they were dog broke, you could have ended up with a stampede. Though because they had young, it's even more likely they could have become very defensive and tried to stomp him into the ground. Either way, somebody could have ended up getting hurt. His response may very well have been a very smart response and he had reason to be afraid - those mama sheep are not as sweet and cuddly as they look. See - you did good. You raised a smart sheepdog. He saw his limits and said" Nuh-huh, not me - get some fool human to go get those critters!" Kristine |

All the rescues have her name and number and aren't afraid to call her! |
Kristine,
Yes the momma sheep will stomp you but sheep are dumb.....they just follow one another. I had guinness on a 30 ft lead and was just having him circle (he has been up with the sheep before, he just gets more wierd as he gets older) using the lead to round them up . Two babies came up to me and he jumped behind me. My neighbor came out and with a bucket of feed they all went running ! Two babies lagged behind and Guinness thought they might eat him !!I guess ,but the momma sheep had their eyes on their babies and would have kicked both our butts had we upset them. Cindy he will just remain a therapy dog sigh |
