OK, how'd he get his name? (dangerous, that one, says Sybil's mom, hehe)
Age? Rank? Serial number? Oh, I'm sorry. More pictures is what I meant to say. And congratulations! Kristine |
I knew I should have explained that oops The rescue coordinator's husband actually came up with the name..........He's a big Star Trek fan and said the dog looked like one of the characters from an episode of the original series, but he couldn't remember the names............... Well, being a Trekkie myself I told him that the two characters were named Lokai and Beal. Lokai (pronounced LO kye) didn't sound right, so I altered it to Loki. It suits him, and he responded to it immediately, so there it is. He really does look like the character -- His face is perfectly symmetrical: Black on one side, white on the other. The rescue coordinator is a breeder and she said in 22 years she's only had one puppy with those markings. I just think he's perfect, but I'm biased. |
YAY!
Say What?!!? You didn't name him Ron? LOL Congratulations! We need pics! |
Sorry -- Next time Also, to answer Kristine: He's 3 (or 5? He was a stray and two different vets gave different estimates) He's a VERY BIG boy -- As skinny as he is, he still weighs 90 pounds. I figure by the time he's back at optimum weight he'll be about 120 pounds. In the 6 days I've had him, he's gone through 15 pounds of food (And that's only eating 3 times a day). I'll post more pictures soon. |
Congratulations on the newest member of your family! Loki looks like a sweetheart. |
Congrats and welcome! |

Well, being Norwegian (and Star Trek impaired, despite having bred a puppy named Chewie (ahem, not named by me - his early name was Coach) and having bred to a dog named Luke <cough, cough> ) I immediately thought Norse mythology: From http://www.godchecker.com/pantheon/nors ... deity=LOKI LOKI Also known as LODER, LOKE, LOKKJU, LOPTER, LOPTI LOKI: God of Hokey Pokey and one of the world's major Trickster Gods. In his early days LOKI was a rascal; crafty, sneaky, silly and malicious — a Loki The Lad. The son of two Giants, he was so outrageously mischievous that he even sneaked his way into becoming a God. He was the first Anti-Hero, quick-witting his way out of the tight corners and confrontations caused by his misdeeds. <snip> ...LOKI, like fire and smoke, was a shape-changer from the word go. A talent he'd developed to make him the shiftiest transmogrifier of all time — from flea to fish to fast flying feathers in 0.3 seconds. I don't think I've seen but one split face marking like his either. It was dramatic, powerful, I love it. Oh, and, good luck with that name (and, darn! I wanted to use it one day ) Kristine |

"Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" - great episode (for those not in the know - http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Let_Tha ... attlefield ). Great name! Congratulations on your new friend! |
Congrats! I have always liked that name.
I immediately clicked on this thread when I saw the name. We had a Loki that was on this board and I wondered if it was the same dog because they disappeared after he arrived. Looks like they have the same markings too. Anyway, Loki is adorable, and I'm glad he has a good home! |
Lynn and Loki, congrats on finding each other! Wishing you many happy, healthy years together!!!!! |
Thank you for rescuing Loki! You'll never be sorry for giving this boy the home he deserves. He'll give you more love and happy days that you can imagine.
He does have the coolest markings, doesn't he? Welcome to the forum. |
Congratulations on finding Loki! I am happy for both of you.
I was also going to post that Loki was a mischieveous trickster in Norse mythology, but I was beaten to it! Your Loki looks delightful! May you have many, many years of happiness together |
I love this picture of Loki and your husband!
It looks like Dad got himself a new dog! |
Oh my gosh...there is sooooooooo much love in that picture!!!!! |
Loki Update: I spoke to the rescue coordinator who brought Loki to me today and she gave me more info on Loki's background. She had spoken with the dog warden in Jamestown, New York, and it seems there is a "breeder" there who was arrested and charged with 140 counts of animal neglect. 140 dogs were seized from this man -- The warden said that because Loki had a testicular infection and couldn't be bred anymore, he was turned loose and left to die. Nauseating.
She asked that I post this on the website -- She thought it was important to know. |

That's just terrible! Thanks so much for saving this handsome boy... he looks sooo lovable |
People like that disgust me. I can't think of a punishment bad enough for them.
Thank you for giving Loki a fresh start and a good life. |
Please give Loki an extra hug from me. I am so happy that he landed in a warm, safe place. |
He looks so happy and content.....thanks for giving him a good life. |
You and Loki deserve one another. Great people, Great dog. A match made in heaven. |

hi,dont know if its a rescuing or buying? person posted a ad on kijji with two female OES,a threeyr old and a one yr old,He says they are in great health,I lost my boy 6months ago and was going to buy a puppy, but when I saw the pictures of the girls,I fell in love,he wants $250 each but will make a deal if I take both,he's in ColSprings, so we would drive to pick them up, guess my question is,is this crazy? |

Hi! Nope, far from crazy, but I guess I would have some questions for the person selling them. First and foremost: WHY IS HE SELLING THEM? A million possibilities go through my mind on this one -- Are the dogs registered? Can the seller provide you with complete medical records? Are they spayed? Maybe the seller had visions of breeding them and building a retirement home on the sale of the puppies ...............Or maybe he just got overambitious with two and realized he didn't have the time to devote to 2 puppies. If the owner is unscrupulous or, worse yet, a puppy mill, you could call it a rescue, but whatever you call it, the first priority is the health and happiness of those two girls. I would go ahead and make the trip to find out more, although you probably will come back with them once you've seen them I would ask for complete medical records before the purchase so you have an idea what you're getting yourself into financially as well as emotionally. If he doesn't have that information then it's your choice.......With a rescue dog you very seldom know what the dog's background and medical history are, so you expect some pitfalls. In this case, you should be able to get some answers. The bottom line for me has always been: If you want to help the dog, money isn't the paramount issue, but be sure you have the financial and EMOTIONAL resources to do whatever is reasonably necessary to keep the girls healthy and happy. I've had dogs that were "healthy" at purchase that cost me thousands after the sale (hence the 'puppy mill' question). Lastly, there are MANY OES out there in need of a loving furever home. You don't need to purchase one to have one in your life -- My Loki Bear is a perfect example of that (as well as my Baby Chrissie and Jack!) Consider going the rescue route as well -- Every time a dog is rescued it strengthens the rescue system, and I can't think of anything better than that! Good luck, and please keep us 'Posted!' |
