Animal Abuse

What do you do when you see an animal get abused?

Casey, Oliver, and I have been living in an apartment since November, waiting for our house to sell. I HATE apartment living, thankfully this time next week, we will be in our new house.

Last night I was going out for my run, and I see Lu-Lu the puppy from upstairs getting kicked and yelled at by her owner for peeing on the carpet. I stood there in shock, started crying, and went back in my apartment. What should have I done? Now I can't get that image out of my head, poor Lu-Lu, no animal should have to live like that. It is not her fault that her owner does not take her out potty and for exercise like he should.

I got my composure back, and headed up to his apartment with some home-make frosty paws in hand for Lu-Lu. I knocked on the door, and instead of answering it, he locked the door!

Now, I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. What can I do to help poor Lu-Lu?

I call animal control or the Humane Society. I've called animal control more than once on my neighbors-- the house next to me seems to attract people who don't take good care of their animals. I've called on the current and previous tenants.

One time we were driving home through work through a shady part of town (it's faster than taking the freeway) and I saw a guy walking a pitbull that had a chain around its neck and was pulling a full size truck tire. I slammed on the brakes and did a giant u-turn, ready to go nuts, when James reminded me where we were and that confronting this dude in this part of town was not a good idea so I drove straight to the Humane Society, which wasn't far away and they sent the Animal Cops (from Animal Planet) after him. I felt like I did a good thing. :)
Without hesitation I would call Animal Control!!!!! If he kick the puppy hard he may of fractured a rib or something.. that poor pup.. someone has to be his saviour.

I fully understand that you may not want to get involved, due to the fact that you have to live in the same building with this creep, and you have to think of your's and your dogs safety.. but I would definately call someone.. maybe just for advice..

Good I hate SCUM like that....I hope they rot.

Do you know where get got LuLu?
I am a mental health therapist and if we see or have any knowledge about a child being abused, we are mandated by law to make a report to social services or the police. I think that as people who love animals we are mandated by that love to call someone.

Also remember this. Statistically, people who have no problem hurting animals generally have no problem hurting people. Calling and getting some kind of agency involved may do more good and save more from hurt than just that poor animal.

It is never easy to make that kind of call, but it is the right thing to do. Good luck and remember, some people would see something like that and look the other way. You are one of those people with a heart who cares enough to notice.
Thanks guys.
I did call animal control, and to my surprise, they were out the very next day. They didn't take Lu-Lu from her owner, but hopefully he knows that people are watching and care. It is so hard to see something like that, I really just wanted to take her, and love on her.
