Feeding a raw diet

WHat is a good book on this subject - or place to gather information? I know my girl has food allergies and I suspect that might be my boys problem with his irritable bowel as well. On the Lagotto list there is a lot of talk about raw feed ing and less food allergies.

ALso I called my vet about the blood test for allergies and was told I have to go out to Cornell to have it done. Has anyone had it done at their own vet? I was wondering if I should call around here and see if it is only my vet who isn't doing it.

There was a discussion not too long ago here about feeding a RAW diet. I'll see if I can find it. I believe both Edy and Emily feed RAW. Someone else, too, but I can't remember off the top of my head who it is.
Kerry - there is an OES raw/natural yahoo list http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalOES/

In addition to feeding raw it deals with questions like vaccinations and parasite preventives etc.

The woman who runs it is very knowlegable - in fact, you probably "know" her - she's on the performance list as well. She and I have politely butted heads several times over genetic vrs environmental in health discussions   But she's an excellent resource when it comes to exploring and switching to raw and she'll go the extra mile to help put you on the right track in terms of informational sources and so on.

A number of the people on the list are also on this forum but since this can be one of those touchy topics, you're usually not going to get too much discussion going on an open forum (sorry, Ron) Not that it wouldn't be interesting.

We feed Izzie raw because of ongoing poop problems that have been nonexistent since we went raw. I bought a few books about canine health, but for advice and info about feeding raw I joined a couple yahoo groups. My groomer/doggie daycare also feeds her dogs raw and I get tips from her. Izzie has been raw since around last September.

Something to keep in mind about a raw diet.....both my vet and holistic vet agree that it is not a good option for some dogs. Oscar, with his immune issues (IBD and skin allergies) is not a good candidate for a raw diet, as my vets feel it would expose him to too much bacteria for his sytem to deal with.

Izzie does get a probiotic supplement with her breakfast. She is also on other supplements that we started while she was on all the antibiotics from giardia or whatever was plaguing her.

You know I thought about emailing you and apparently the person who runs the list and asking this question as I was sure you would have a source 8)

I will check it out. Thanks

Have to admit this is part of what confuses me - I forget to take my own supplements and one day one thing is good - another day its something else. Oh how confusing :!: :D
I think Laika is also on raw diet.

I always forget my vitamins too  Only the best and healthiest for Izzie, but fast food is fine for me 8)
Bingers is on a raw-food diet, too. He does exceptional on it and it has greatly helped him in the back-end department! :D The rawdogranch was a big help for me when I was looking into switching.
