I just got a bill from the hospital for an out-patient visit...for $50.00. the thing is that i was NEVER in the hospital on that day!! sooo, i called the billing dept. and they say that i was...no, i wasnt!!!!! i ask to be transfered to a supervisor....the supervisor says that it was an office visit... okay, i did go to the office (not at the hospital) for the nuelasta shot..i payed the $20.00 co-pay...so what is this...and why is this a hospital bill, not my oncologist bill??????? of course she doesnt know and the only way to find out is to go down to the hospital records dept (because they wont discuss it over the phone) and find out..... this is just a load....im not against paying the lousy $50 bucks, im against not knowing what the heck im paying for.....any why NO ONE can just tell me over the phone.....its not like its some HUGE secret!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 okay, rant done! |

I hate hospital and medical billings. They are never right, and it seems to me, once one bills you, you get all sorts of bills from people/doctors/labs and whoever else can get your address. After I had my kidney stone, I just kept getting bills! More and More bills from Doctors I'd never heard of! They were never a huge amount, so out of frustration, I'd just pay them to make them go away. I know there's a medical scam going on! |
Insurance and medical bills are the worst. The thing that drives me crazy is that you can never get the two people who NEED to talk like the doctor and the insurance company to actually talk to each other. It's always a back and forth with me in the middle and when something finally gets worked out it doesn't get passed on and you have to start all over again. DRIVES ME CRAZY! |
And they wonder why medical costs keep going up and up and up.......... |
Thanks for posting this. I just received a bill in the mail over the weekend for about $1,000 from the hospital I had to go to for my pulmonary embolism. The reason for the charge was because I was "out of area". My visit was an emergency so how could I be "out of area"? So, I will probably spend days on the phone trying to get this taken care of. We even have good insurance now. |
I know exactly what you mean. I am still sorting out the bills from my broken leg a year ago. I have some $100 supposed bill that has been sent to collections, which is insane because I pay all my bills. The flood of mysterious paperwork was imposssible to keep up with, let alone understand. |
I got a bill for general anesthesia for my
gallbladder opperation, from the Dr who did the anesthesia almost 3 years after the surgery. I had never gotten a bill, a notice, an invoice or anything to suggest there was such a bill outstanding. The very first thing I ever got was a letter threatening collection. And the bill didn't come from the hospital or the billing center, but from his practice office. I never did figure any of it out. Shellie If the doctor/hospital had not recieved their money from your insurance company after about a year, they will send the bill to you so YOU will put the pressure on YOUR insurance company to just PAY THE BILL. I had this happen to me a few years ago with HAP and it took them three more months after my 5 (one initial and 4 follow ups) calls to pay the hospital. |
I had another problem with an insurance company a few years ago when my son, who was thirteen at the time had a tumor removed from his pituitary gland. I recieved a bill telling me they would not be covering his surgery and stay in the hospital. Now, I knew we had gotten the approval from the Insurance company. As it turned out the approval for the surgery was for April 16th, which is the day the surgery was, but whoever made out the paperwork in the lab put April 15th and so the problems had begun. When I did talk to the billing department about this, they of course, had to check with the Doctors, but I assured her that I knew what day the surgery was and what time it was....he was my son and believe me I will never forget that day. She corrected the paperwork and we never heard another thing about it.
My advise is just really check dates and such and try to understand what they are billing you for. I had a boss that once told me, "don't pay a medical bill until after the third billing. By then the insurance company has usuallt paid what they are supposed to." Good luck digging through the paperwork! |
I got a bill for a mammogram. I asked before hand, "How much do I owe?" "Just the copay" Several weeks later a $75 bill arrives. I ignore it. Month or two, more bills, now threats. So I pay the dang thing and a week later, "We are confused, why did you send us money?" ARGH! No, I haven't gotten the refund yet after they realized they made a mistake. Should I send them a bill for harassment? |
Darcy,
try getting a $26,000.00 bill and being told your insurance will not cover it because it wasn't authorized and no one bothered to tell you that it wasn't authorized before or during treatment . Yoga? Deep breathing? yeah, sign me up Good luck, I'm sure you'll get it straightened out. Just takes a lot of time and a LOT of PATIENCE and PERSISTENCE. |
wow lvsl....now that sucks!!!!!! im soo sorry for you.....
well i spent most of my day off running from the billing dept (which is 4 miles away), to the hospital med records dept and back to the billing dept to find out that right on their computer screen, it says genetic labwork....now why in the heck did they not tell that to me over the phone.....grrrrrr...... i know, i know.....deep breaths...... |
