Zackie is an angel- very loving and very sweet. Oddly enough, a couple of years ago he was diagnosed as a "VAD" (very agressive dog). This aggressiveness ONLY comes out when he goes to the vet or to the groomer. Because of this, when he gets sheared 2 times a year, he has to be put under by the vet. I don't like this practice at all. We bathe him at home, but cannot even turn on the hair dryer without him becoming very uncomfortable and trying to run away. Has anyone else had this problem? He has been this way for a couple of years. Anything would help (except suggesting animal therapy at University of Pennslyvania. My dad nixed it) Thanks! Rachel and Zackie |

Rachel and Zackie,
I am not an expert but I have had a similar experience with my dog Muffin. She was a cocker/springer spaniel. She was a rescue dog, who was abused from her previous own. She became attatched to our family and was friendly with strangers but was very fearful of the groomers. She would go crazy and begin panicing. I didn't want to put her thru that sort of stress so I learned how to clip her myself. It started out slow. We got her use to being near loud noises. She wasn't scared of the dry but the clippers freaked her out. I would just take the time to turn the clippers on in the room, then closer to her another time. I would go as close to her as she would let me without her getting scared. She would let me turn the clippers on next to her and one day when she felt safe i clipped part of her. I would do a little at a time and she eventually let me clipper. She trusted me and knew that I wouldn't hurt her. It may work for you, too. Goodluck, Jennifer and Annie |
