She tried to jump up on me tonight again. I had her sit. She tried to jump up again. Told her no, had her sit. In the mean time, Sybil walked up, sat down next to me in heel position (except she was on my right). Maggie went to lift herself up again, you could see her gathering herself. Quick "grrr" from Sybil and a paw on Maggie's shoulder. Maggie sat. Good Sybil!!! Well, if I can't train one dog, maybe I can train another one to train her. On a separate note, does anyone else work with a clicker? You know how you sometimes click something you hadn't intended? I was doing some contact work with Liz when I inadvertently clicked her passing gas. My vet wants me to put it on cue and rent her out to people whose friends and family have overstayed their welcome. I don't know, sounds a bit like cruel and unusual punishment to me. Kristine |

Good job Sybil! She sounds like an excellent teacher. Maybe you have found the key to teaching Maggie.
LOL about Liz and the gas. I am sure you could make a lot of money that way. |
Just curious...
Could the clicker create a spark? |

To the dog or the guests? |
George wrote: Mad Dog wrote: I don't know, sounds a bit like cruel and unusual punishment... To the dog or the guests? George - I have to think the guests since none of my dogs seem the least bit upset by their own gas production. Until I put her on probiotics my other dogs were, however, encouraging her to go out and play on a busy highway, so I suppose other dogs sensibilities could be offended. Hard to imagine given what must dogs apparently find pleasing in the olfactory department, but she was able to clear my office of all dogs on at least one occassion. Left unchecked, she's a pro. Could the clicker create a spark? Well, I suppose so, and that could open up entirely new entrepreneurial possibilities... I keep telling my dogs they are working dogs and I expect them to help me bring home the bacon, but so far all they do is help me eat it and their marketable skills have been few and far between. This opens up entirely new possibilities. KB |
I think renting Liz out is a fine idea.
Similarly, Chewie (and a few others) have been a bit more gassy than normal d/t the dog food change (ie: all those bags Chewie won!). Chewie is always gassier in the late evening. Last Wednesday was our monthly visit to the hospital with our therapy dog group. I brought Simon last month, so it was Chewie's turn. (Staff insist I rotate dogs, as each dog has their fan club!) The visit usually runs from 7pm -9pm. He did great until the last 30 minutes, and let one (silently) rip. Oh my, did we get the reaction! We were in the center hub of the floor, where the 4 wings each start. At least it was a large area and it dissipated fairly quickly. Thank goodness for an industrial strength ventilation system! Re Sybil - I bet she just wants Maggie to catch on. Sybil wants her mom's attention back on herself, where it belongs! Either that, or she just wonders why Maggie is so slow to catch on. |
Wow...that's a great way to generate some revenue...If food and clicker is involved Luca would be able to wipe out small coutnries on command in no time! Liz and Luca could go for world domination...that is if she could stand him at all...
Apparently Luca let a silent but deadly one earlier yesterday...Joanne was in the vacinity and said she just about passed out. I reduced the amount of probiotics I was putting in his food ...won't do that any more. |

Is that a friendly reminder? Vet's office called. Evidently they need some easy going dogs for one of their classes this weekend - if I end up taking a couple of the kids I'll try to remember to pick you up another bottle. I weaned Liz off hers - with that notable clickable break-through the other night - but if we ever need to step in to avert a world energy crisis we'll just let Breeder feed them for a while Kristine |
It's funny about the assistant trainer thing. When I yell at Nigel to get off the couch or some similar bad behavior, Bella will go and yell at him too.
Bella is the gassiest dog I have ever had. She belches real loud after every meal (and other times). She also passes gas almost every time she lies down. I have them on Canidae, and she doesn't clear the room...but you can alway hear them. I send her over to lie at my husband's feet. Payback! The things we do, and put up with, for our sheepies. |

Marley was gassy on canidae too - she is on a fish based food now and it has stopped - I assume it was part of an allergic reaction to one of the protein sources I've been told the reacting to my yelling at -or correcting - another dog is a stress behavior. |
I used Nutro for years...but I can't go back to it because the canned food was what poisoned my last OES. (4 days before the pet food recall)
I do give them some Natural Balance loaf too. I may switch because it is so inconvient to purchase here. (Canidae that is) I need to go over Natural Balance ingredients first as I don't want any grains or glutens in the food. Nothing will make you more paranoid about pet foods than losing one like that. I still feel awful and I am so scared that it might happen again |
I think there may be grains in the Natural Blance tube food ( I assume that is what you meant by loaf) and Natural balance was part of the pet recall so I believe that means their food has grains.
we are using taste of the wild for Marley - although I am looking into orijens (if anyone uses that....) Morgan is still on the Canidae as it agrees with him as most change sin food don't. |
You are right. Wheat flour and rice flour. I only use it for training, and a sliver crumbled for picky eating days. I was thinking about Blue Buffalo again. It seems they took out the offending vitamin K additive. They did have a recall on some of their canned stuff...it was canned Nutro that was our problem. I don't use any canned dog food anymore!!!! |
Kristine, Lizzie jumps on us too...and on the counter....and on Pirate...and on whatever catches her eye. Maybe Sybil can come for a visit! Also...good point: Why don't dogs smell their own gas? Do you think they're just desensitized from smelling their own tushies? |
I'm not sure they don't smell it - I have some get up and move to get away from it. The funniest has been the times they really let one go and scared themselves - happens more with my husbands Irish Setter - the wimp |
debcram wrote: Kristine, Lizzie jumps on us too...and on the counter....and on Pirate...and on whatever catches her eye. Uh-oh. She was the good one in the jumping department - her bad was countersurfing. Now that she's with you, her sis has started countersurfing. Maybe Sybil can come for a visit! Only if we can clone her... The rest are no help in the training department. In fact, I think Che has been secretely training Maggie to do his dirty work for him, because I haven't caught him trying anything for weeks. Also...good point: Why don't dogs smell their own gas? Do you think they're just desensitized from smelling their own tushies? Who says they don't? Maybe they just enjoy watching the rest of us squirm. "You can make me sit and stay, you fiend. And throw pills down my throat and subject me to humiliating hair cuts. But, never, never shall you take my dignity! <pffft!!!>" Does you cat pass gas? No? Mine neither. Or if he does, he blames it on the dogs. If mine doesn't like what I'm doing, he just walks up and bites me (seriously - he does). Straight and to the point. "You were late with my breakfast, wench! <chomp!>" OK, some poetic license there. But dog farts could just be the ultimate in passive aggressiveness. I don't know how that explains Sunny's Luca or (apparently) most husbands, but I'm sure I can fit that into my theory somehow. |
My Siamese gives me that disapproving, evil eye, then chomp, too. And....Pirate is only dog I have known personally that makes 'THE NOISE" when he passes gas. And no, the silent ones aren't the only deadly ones...trust me! |
I am sitting hear with tears in my eyes...probably because I just experienced this earlier this evening. Sitting watching T.V. and eww, take another breath and eewww, another breath and EEEWWW. Look down at my feet and there is cute sleeping Garfunkel. We haven't had this for awhile...Thanks Gar. |
Ok...Bella can fart as loud as a human...and usually they are!!! It certainly isn't very lady-like!!! |
