Precious

I used to have a cat called, "Precious" and she used to bring me presents. On one occassion I had a friend visiting me from out of town. A city girl. I went off to work leaving her with Precious in her lap purring like crazy. Later that day I got a frantic phone call. Precious had brought home a prezzie for my friend. Not just any prezzie but a half-live pigeon! Precious brought it up to the front door and sat by while the poor bird shuffled around. My friend didn't know what to do. I told her to leave it to Precious to manage. Sure enough she dove in and tore the poor thing apart while my "won't eat it unless it's wrapped in plastic" friend watched from a distance. Feathers everywhere. Precious had pretty much cleaned up everything but a few feathers by the time I got home. Funny how my friend was distant to Precious after that. "What? You don't want kisses?"

Hi Heather,
Isn't just wonderful getting those small presents, I am sure your friend just appreciated it very much. I should be used to getting those gifts by now since I live out in the country, my cats usually bring home little rodents but never my dogs. But got to love them just the same 8O
I came home one day to find a dove on my living room floor. The cat and dog were BOTH in the house. Riley (the cat) thinks he's a mighty hunter but to my knowledge, he's never caught anything bigger than a dragon fly. There were feathers all over the house but the bird was intact. Riley didn't seem to notice that there was a dead bird in the living room but who knows, maybe he was trying to act innocent. We never did figure out "who done it" or HOW!
We have a stray cat that just came up at our hunting camp during the Summer, so we started feeding him. He loves to bring me presents too. So far I have been gifted with a chipmunk, a squirrel and my favorite.... a bat that was still alive.

Darndest thing about this cat, he has six toes on each foot. Guess that is what makes him a great "mouser". Has anyone else ever heard of a six toe cat?
Yep! Cats (or other animals) with extras toes are called polydactyl. Ernest Hemingway is famous for keeping polydactyl cats, and I rthink that there is still a Hemingway home which keeps these special kitties somewhere in the US :) Ah, the things you learn as an English Major ;)
I think the Hemingway cats are at the Hemingway estate in Key West, Florida.....

...and you use the term "are at" loosely, as they just have free roam over everywhere and everything....
