This can happen to anyone!!!

At the end of January I was asked by Pepsi's mommy if I could help out with re-homing a young sheepdog here in Europe. I was put in touch with the owner and I was given details about the dog, as I know the breeder I got in touch with them as really I expected this person to step in and handle everything, wrong, I was asked to go ahead and help out. :?

After making arrangements with the owner I travelled about 500 miles to his home to collect him. Due to the fact I show my dogs I tend to go over any sheepie I meet and I did just that, what I found shocked me, although this young dog had a puppy cut he was matted all over, because he lived outside he was dirty, he was grossly underweight, he had an infection in his eyes and ears and he had green plaque on his teeth.

On the way home I phoned my vet and arranged to visit her the next day, as she only stays round the corner she came round the same evening and was shocked at what she seen, after he had been fed we washed him, I took the next day off work and visited the vet as we had arranged, he was given a close examination of his general health, he was foung to be only just over 50 lbs, roundabout 30 - 40 lbs under weight, she cleaned and treated his eyes, the same with his ears and his teeth were cleaned and polished as best she could. :)

Over the next week or so we groomed him and to our surprise this "ugly duckling" has turned into a beautiful young "swan". We go to the vet twice a week with him and he is gaining weight, his ears and eyes are nearly better only a matter of time, this shy boy is really bold and ís learning something new every day from my two sheepies, he has acceped the pecking order by us and seems to be extreamly happy living with his fellow sheepies. :D :D

What am I trying to say, if you are considering buying a puppy please consider the following:
Always buy from a reputable breeder.
Look for a breeder near to your home.
Ask the breeder how often they offer grooming lessons. This is a must since they are selling you a dog that will need excessive grooming if you keep its coat and you do not want it to matt.
Ask the breeder to recommend a food and if possible a second choice.

In the case of the sheepie I have rescued the owners were inexperienced and received no help from the breeder in looking after this young boy.

So Stewart...where are the pictures of the new boy...the swan?
Stewart,

Again thank you for helping out with rescuing Zorro. :cheer:

I was very disappointed to hear that his breeder did not even offer to take him back. It was their responsibility to do so, as they breed the dog.
Shame on them for not taking responsibility for their dogs!! I do hope you report them to whatever kennel club they belong to.

I look forward to seeing new pics!! :D I also hope to see him in the show ring sometime soon. Keeping my fingers crossed that he passes the HD testing and can become a successful show dog.

I found out about the dog thanks to the wonderful networking here at OES.org. 8)
If you look at http://photos.oes.org/thumbnails.php?album=6 and look at photo's of "Fairbancks of Snowboot Bears" or as we call him "Zorro" you can see how he is developing, I will update regulary with his progress. Zorro thanks you all for your sympythy and best wishes. I am also updating my website on a regular basis wizj photo's of him and my other two bobbies.

Hamish = "Boss bob" He is the Bobby Boss.
Misty = "Baby bob" She was up until Zorro came the youngest.
Zorro = "Bouncing bob" Because of his amazing energy.

On Easter Monday I have entered Misty at a show in Leeuwarden in Holland, Mrs Gwen Mogforg is the Judge and this a lady I respect very much, I will take along the young boy and ask Gwen her opinion of him I honestly do not think I will be disappointed with her opinion.
Wow. :o Thank you, Stewart, for stepping in and rescuing Zorro. :clappurple: Good work, Elissa. :high5:
Stewart...when do you do the HD testing and how old is Zorro now?
Hi Wendy, Zorro is 19 mths old, if he had been mine from a pup normally I would have had him X-rayed at 15 mths but I am now waiting until he has gained a little more weight as he will become an anesthaesia to let the vet carry out the necessary work.
He sure is a handsome boy...we will be keeping our paws crossed for him. :D
Zorro looks like a wonderfull dog and a personality to match. I am still dreaming of having a sheepie to love.
zorro looks great thanks for rescuing him
Here is a long overdue update on Zorro, he is now just over 13 weeks with us in Kiel, he has gained 25 lbs in weight, although his eyes still weep a little it is nothing to worry about, his ears will take a little longer to heal but we are on the right track, he lies peacefully on the table to be groomed and he just loves being with us.

Below you can see a photo taken the other day after grooming was over.
