I was wondering if any one one can answer this question for me. When ever Mukwa lays down for a snooze he seems to pant quite a bit. He has always done this and I was just wondering if it is normal. When he lays down for the night that is when I really notice it. Just wondering, maybe it is a normal thing but since my husky sleeps outside I have never noticed if she does it or not. |

Hmmm, curious. Could be any number of things:
It's too hot for the dog. The dog is dreaming. He has a nasal obstruction......kinda like adenoids in humans. The dog has some medical condition that is straining or pushing on the heart or lungs. Actually just being prone on the floor does push somewhat, so there is some panting. Hopefully the dog isn't fat, that would be one possible cause. I'd mention it to the vet if it bothers you, but first take the temperture of the area where the dogs sleeps. |
How old is Mukwa? It's difficult to say - because we all probably have different ideas of what "panting alot" would be - so based on my assumption that the panting is excessive (not typical) I would also suggest to talk to your Vet.
Do you notice any other signs of breathing problems? Is he as active as you would expect? Check his coloring (of the gums) - make sure they are pink It may not be excessive/unusal at all - but just something you are not used to. The Vet I'm sure will tell you it's nothing - but at least you'll ease your mind. Good Luck! Kristen |
Hi Dawna! Glad to see you back on the forum
Is Mukwa actually "panting" ie: tongue out breathing big hard breaths, or just breathing quickly? Dogs do breathe faster than humans, and their hearts do beat a lot faster. He is probably fine, but as the others said, it may be too hot for him too, but if you are concerned mention it to your vet and have them check it out. |
Thanks Willowsprite,
I guess it may not be panting but heavy breathing when he is sleeping, I am probably just worrying for nothing but I don't ever remember any of my other dogs I have had in the past breathing like that. But who knows maybe I never really paid much attention as I do to this pup. And then I never had a dog that slept close by me all the time for me to notice. Just had him to the vet not that long ago and she gave him a clean bill of health. He is very active and never slows down but I will check with the vet just for peace of mind. |
He is soooo adorable Dawna!!! |
