I knew the moment I picked him up from the airport 2 days before Christmas that there was something majorly wrong! He was an overall shade of tan, his legs were extremely long, head extremely small, Short cocked ears, extremely curly tail, black nails, etc. and looked nothing like the pictures that we saw of him on the website! He was also extremely dirty, smelled horrible and his ears were literally caked with black ear wax. I paid over $1000.00 for this puppy! I was so shocked and upset, I really didn't know what to do. As soon as I got home with the puppy, I bathed him and cleaned his ears and then called the breeder. She wasn't home so I talked to her (adult) daughter and expressed my disappointment with my dirty puppy. I asked her to please have Paula call me ASAP. She never called so I e-mailed her that night. We wanted to send this puppy back. She e-mailed me back stating that she would be happy to take him back but we would have to pay to ship him to her and we would not get a penny of our money refunded! She was not at all interested or cared that we were unhappy with our puppy! I then decided to write a formal complaint to Puppyfind. I took our puppy to the vet to get an overall check. Almost the first thing out of my vets mouth was that our puppy did not look like a Coton and has written us a letter stating so! Our Puppy also had a raging case of worms! We had paperwork from breeder stating that he had been through a thorough deworming! Our Vet said that either he did not receive the de worming medication as indicated in the paperwork or was living in such a dirty/worm infested environment that it didn't matter. Puppyfind (Jessica) e-mailed me back regarding my complaint and said that I should write a review summarizing my experience with this breeder. I did as they said....the very next day I received an e-mail stating that the unfavorable review was getting removed. Apparently the breeders have the ability to remove any review they want. I contacted Puppyfind again and they said that they give their breeders the ability to remove bad reviews so that other breeders won't be tempted to write reviews against their competitors. They said that I had to make a case to get my review reinstated on their website. I had to supply Puppyfind with 2 letters from my vet, a summary of my experience, all communications with breeder, test results from vet, letter from my previous breeder (I have a 3 year old Coton that I bought from a good reputable breeder) and this went on for 4 weeks before I finally got them to post my review again. This breeder has since posted a response to my review stating that I am a liar and troublemaker! When Paula found out that I had complained to Puppyfind...she threatened to sue me! What a joke! I have had other buyers contact me with similar and worse experiences with this breeder! Please learn from my mistakes and do not buy from puppyfind or this breeder!!!!!!!! |

I always wonder, "if I reply to these ...will they be back to read it?"
My magic eight ball says "not likely." Wish that was broken into paragraphs. ..........just saying. My eyes hurt. |
I am very sorry that you have had a bad and heartbreaking experience.
Sadly people buy dogs impulsively from places like puppyfind and while they certainly don't deserve the heartbreak that follows it is never a surprise when things go badly. Why anyone would spend that kind of money on a dog, sight unseen, is beyond me. My mother used to call that "buying a pig in a poke". Buying a dog is a HUGE committment, one that should be carefully researched and considered. I won't get into the debate over whether puppyfind breeders are reputable or not but buying a dog from any breeder without checking into their reputation and knowing more about their breeding program is just plain foolish. This is a sad expensive lesson for you. |

Is that what that phrase means? The only time I've ever heard it was on National Lampoon's Vacation when they were on the gameshow, A Pig in a Poke! And I never knew what it meant. I thought it just sounded funny |

I have to ask. Why, if you had a 'reputable breeder' before, did you go to puppyfind? Surely if your previous breeder is no longer breeding they could point you to another breeder, not to mention contacting the breed club. Unless, of course, it was a matter of timing for Christmas, and then I have to say I hope there was a lesson in all this. Shellie |

I thought it just sounded funny From WIKIPEDIA (the source of TRUE knowledge ) Pig in a poke From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Pig-in-a-poke is an idiom that refers to a confidence trick originating in the Late Middle Ages, when meat was scarce but apparently rats and cats were not. The scheme entailed the sale of a "suckling pig" in a "poke" (bag). The wriggling bag actually contained a cat—not particularly prized as a source of meat—that was sold unopened to the victim. A common colloquial expression in the English language, to "buy a pig in a poke," is to make a risky purchase without inspecting the item beforehand. The phrase can also be applied to accepting an idea or plan without a full understanding of its basis. Similar expressions exist in other languages, most of them meaning to buy a cat in a bag, with some exceptions: |
I am sorry you had such a horrible experience with a breeder advertising on puppyfind.com. Usually a person can come here and tell their story and get good advice or an understanding shoulder to cry on. Your story is typical of the horror stories that are posted here from other unhappy "puppyfind" puppy buyers. I hope the best for you and your pup. |
Oh, my gosh!! I cannot believe I found your posting. We to had the exact same experience w/ Paula Walters and her husband Donald.
We thought we were buying a healthy Coton puppy this past August. We were very, very, thourough. Spoke with her several times thru the phone and email. Recieved pictures, reviews were all good. Confirmation that she was sending us the "pick of the litter", the happiest puppy!! We even held out for a few days, weighing our options. In the end we bielieved everything she told us. We took our two children to the airport to pick up their Birthday presents and the pup weighed about 1 pound, and would not move. This was supposed to be a 9 week old 3-4 pound healthy puppy. We went straight to the Vet. $600 for them to tell us this puppy was very sick, work infested, tapeworms, dehydrated, and not 9 weeks old. Took him home with meds and fluids, tried to contact Puala, of course no annswer. Next day in the ER because he was having tremors and not walking. Another $600 in vet bills. DIED a few days later. I would love to talk w/ you shannon and tell you how we finally recieved our money back!! She is a fraud and is selling fruadulant merchandise online and you can get your money back!!!! Please tell everyone you know to NEVER purchase an animal online or from a pet store. You MUST find someone in your town, who is honest, caring, visit several times, see and hold the pups, and meet both parents to the litter!! This is a problem all across the country, people must learn from our experiences and we could put a stop to this horrible treatment of animals. |
How sad. I am so sorry for you and the puppy. |
What a beautiful quote! I just love it! It is completley true!!! |
I had the same experience with PuppyFind when I received my Coton from a horrible breeder in North Dakota named Marilyn Berntson. She finally removed herself from the site, but I'm still not content with her. I am reporting her to the American Humane Society, her local sheriff's office, Coton Rescue and any and every other site I can think. This woman should NEVER own a pet of ANY kind. I'm sorry you went though this because I know of your issues. I have spent a small fortune to get this dog in the best condition, and each time I get medical care for one thing, another shows up. He was never socialized, housebroken, wormed, teeth cleaned, etc. I feel for you. This site should be closed, but I'm sure they will find a way to open under another name. I've hear of MANY bad complaints for this site. Good Luck. |
