after she got spayed her cut and stitches looked normal, now, since yesterday, I've seen that, where her cut and stitches are, that this part (and this part only!) got a bit like a balloon and also feels harder! Even if she lays on her back it still looks like a "handful" of skin! Is this normal after she got spayed to develop this or shall I contact the Vet? We get the stitches out on tuesday anyway but I wonder if it needs attention? It looks like the whole area of the cut and stitches is swollen!! (but nothing else is!!!) thanks all for your advice!! |

Call the vet to see if she should be seen. You want to rule out infection.
Could she be getting a bit too much activity? Sometimes there's localized swelling and the stitches can get too tight. If healing has progressed enough, our vet has at times removed a few of the tightest ones. As for the balloon, sometimes fluid gathers and it looks like a ball under the skin. It's usually absorbed again over time but may again be caused by too much activity. We've had the fluid drawn off before and it's been a clear blood tinged fluid (sorry if that's too much info ). This is what we have experienced anyway... good luck to Charlie. |
I would still call your vet but I was just talking to someone who had their dog spayed and the same exact thing happen. The vet said it was because she was allowing her dog to run around too much. |
Yup... and we thought we were being
SO good about keeping them calm. Darby was the biggest challenge... she had a hernia repair done too... AND a littermate who was spayed at the same time that she wanted to wrestle with. |
sOUNDS LIKE A HEMATOMA. i WOULD HAVE IT LOOKED AT. |
Keep us updated, gentle hugs. |
It is normal for the whole length of the incision to be a bit red and puffy. It will lay down flat again when the sutures are removed next week. Any other swelling is not normal.
A hematoma is a pocket of bleeding under the skin. It looks like a bubble or ball is under there. Depending on the size and location, it may or may not be a concern. If in doubt, always have it checked out by your vet who did the surgery. They will want to know when it appeared and if it is changing in size. Hugs to you both! |
Hi all!
you where all soooo right!! I went to the Vet straight in the morning and the Vet ask me if Charlie was running round too much and I told her that she was running away on monday morning when I got out of the house to the car, which is literaly in front of the house, cause she seen a dog on the other side of the road and then she probably thought it was playing time and run off and never stopped! She NEVER did this before! I was scared! Luckily I could stop her after running for 5 min but now she got to pay the price cause the Vet said she got liquid/water in it and she got to take some medicine which cost me another £70! So all together I paid for a normal spay nearly £300!! instead of £120! ... and the stitches are now not coming out on monday as we thought, we have to go on tuesday again to check her and maybe wait some more days to see if the water has gone down (the vet said some vet's take the water out, she doesnt, cause it makes the water coming back straight away, it would be better to use the tablets she gave her) Well, as long as she is fine now and I never ever leave the house without a lead, not even to go to the car!!! Lesson learned!! Thank you all for your great advice!! Charlie is a wild one!!! |
bless...how on earth can you stop a sheepie running, even if they have had an operation. Born to run! |
Thank goodness that wild sheepie girl is okay. |
