In my opinion this is a gesture of affection. |
I don't know if it affection, or what, but Chewie does it. He licks me whenever he can.
He licks the cat's ears, Riley the rat terriers ears, Maggie the coonhound's ears and Simon the bassets ears. He really gets a big ear with Simon!! He doesn't lick or chew on himself however. ( OK, he does the male dog personal hygiene lick! ). |
Morgan has a thing for ears too - other dogs, ours it doesn't matter. |
Definitely affection |
Do all sheepdogs know how to curl their tongues up so that they can get it down deeper into your ear?
A very weird way to wake up in the morning... |
Maybe it smells good to them? Oliver is ear licker too. It starts with licking, then quickly accelerates to nibbling. It's a good thing I don't wear earrings! |
Definitely affection. Phoebe sniffs and then gives gentle butterfly licks. |
Is your dog trying to get in as far as possible?
Otherwise it's prob affection but I don't know... my dog is weird, so I'd believe anything if it was her doing it. |
I don't know if it's affection or just a weird cleaning habit but Boni does it too and not just for us but even for Lumpi. They are playing and wrestling and all of a sudden there is a pose when he lifts Lumpi's ear, sniffs at it and starts licking it. Lumpi loves it! He even tilts his head in that direction. |

Mine do that to, the little wierdos |
Cooper likes to lick ears also. He makes sure to include a little nip on the lobe as if he were eating corn on the cob. Pretty strange but really cute.
He's a sweetheart for sure!!!!!!!!! |
