Ok, the problem is we moved to a new house that has a cottage-y motif and she is chewing on the pine boards on the walls and on door jams. I sprayed with apple bitter, but it does not seem to work...Any ideas? |

You can make a liquid mix of ground chili peppers and water. Then mix it up and spray it on with an old squirt bottle. Or paint it on with a brush.
I did try that with a very persistant young lab who was determined to eat my wreath off the hook by the door. It really didn't work that well. Then I tried adding in some hotter stuff. I took a couple of my dried uber-hot peppers and boiled them in a cup of water on the stove. Added that to the chili pepper stuff in the spray bottle. I did have some luck with that mix! It was like he was drawn like a magnet to that wreath - ggrrr! |
Thought of that, may not be good with the amount of babies and toddlers running around here....sigh
My house is like a freak-parade... I only have two kids and and Maisey, but I have one of those houses where there may be 6-7 children and any number of dogs running (and I mean running) around. Not to mention the "grown ups". The other day I pulled up to the gas station and the guy that works there asked me if I had a skunk in my van. (My pregnant sister was holding her new Jack Russel puppy) ...I laughed and said no, but in the van were 3 kids under three, my Maisey and my very preggo sis and puppy... I told him to give me time... Spring time's a comin'... Bring on the skunks... Maybe if they sprayed the trim Maisey would stop chewing on it.... |
Dawn that's a great idea! I will have to try it on my "chewing clients"!
For Maisey, if you don't mind putting a plastic corner thingy up for a while, I would recommend that. I don't know what they are called properly but it's like those corner things for tables (to protect babies running into them) that you can buy at Home Depot. It is see through and when she stops chewing you can take them off. And of course give her a Kong filled with treats when you see her chew something inappropriate. |
