his time is short, thx, sue |
|
Gosh, he's a cute one, hope somebody gives him a furever home. |
I have tried every one I know
No one has come forward. |
My husband and I could pick him up, but we wouldn't be able to keep him. If we picked him up would there be rescue we could take him to? |
That would be wonderful!
I can't seem to find anyone to foster, |
He is still listed on Petfinder |
That is so sad... Surely someone will take him -- he's beautiful! |
jcc9797 - Would you pick him up and let all of us work on finding a home for him? |

He is a sweet dog 1/2 sheep dog, 1/4 beagle and 1/4 pittbull. He was an owner give up because he kept getting their female dog pregnant ( I guess they never thought to get him fixed). Sweet dog came in with an eye infection, but that cleared up with a little doggie penicillin. Listens well knows a few basic commands. Does not jump up on people. Always uses the bathroom outside. Not much else i can tell you. If you can help him please hurry. |
Looks like Neosho Mo. is close to Oklahoma, Mississippi, Kansas corners. Anyone around from those states? |
I don't think I'll be able to take off work to get him...wish I would have seen this on Saturday/Sunday . |
Can you get him another day?
Shelter may hold him for you. Can someone find out??????? |
I emailed the shelter just now to see if they could hold off until Saturday. I will let you all know as soon as I hear. The phone number for the shelter is listed on petfinder on the first notice posted here about him. |
I posted a message on a Pit Bull message board in their rescue section.
Anyone know a good forum for Beagle owners / rescue? |
How about a mixed breed rescue too?
Did you google them? |
Yes, last night i emailed Flaw Dogs and a couple of other rescues in that area. I haven't heard anything yet and still waiting for a reply from the shelter about giving him a few more days. |
I spoke to the man at the shelter. He will not hold him anymore days, and they are only open M-F from 8:15 am to 4:30 pm.
So, long story short, my husband is taking off work tomorrow to go pick him up... Echo will go directly to a vet, as he has not even been heartworm tested, has fleas and ticks, and most likely worms. WE CANNOT KEEP HIM, so we need to actively try to find him a home-apartments stink. In the mean time, I am getting some help from the Airedale Rescue group of KC in finding some boarding and vet offices at discount. I will post more when I find out more. |
You are an angel!!!! Let me know how else I can help. Maybe a donation? Please keep us posted. |

Yes, thank you.
And you shouldn't have to do this alone. Tell the rest of us what we can do to help. Kristine |
Thank you, thank you

I think the best thing for anyone to do right now is try to find him a foster/perm home. I will evaluate him once we pick him up, and we can go from there. I just hate to have to board him for a long period of time... |
Thank you so much!!!
Good idea to check rescues for adoption application they have waiting. |
I think that we are actually going to pick him up on Thursday, my husband can't get off work tomorrow but can on Thursday. Also we can't have a pit bull here at all. The Home Owners Association says that basically no pit bull or pit bull mixes can be housed in the HOA. So its really important that we have some place to bring him once we pick him up because he can't come here otherwise we can get fined a lot. And its not just the HOA but the city we live in doesn't allow you to have a pit bull unless you have a license and since we have an OES we don't have that license and the fine from animal control up here is a lot more than the HOA fine. |
oh no! are we sure he has any pit bull at all? Does anyone know if Flawdogs will take him? |
I told Jennifer in a pm that I am working with a brand new rescue that *might* be able to take Echabod. Right now the biggest obstacle is that we have absolutely no money and no vet, so we would need him to be totally vetted before we take him. The next obstacle is finding a foster home (but I think we can do this no problem, especially if he's dog friendly!). And the third obstacle is getting him to Chicago, but I would be willing to meet a bit further downstate so I think that should be ok. I also need to triple check with the the rest of my rescue that we are ready for dogs (we just got licensed monday!)
I know there's a lot of contingencies in there, but I'm hoping things will come together and we can help. |
What would the vet cost be? I don't have much either but I could pledge some to your rescue. Let me know. You guys are great! Are you a new rescue? |
4Sophie wrote: What would the vet cost be? I don't have much either but I could pledge some to your rescue. Let me know. You guys are great! Are you a new rescue?
Ditto. And find the right vet and if he's in halfway decent shape, it wouldn't have to cost a fortune. Where are you exactly? Down town Chicago or...? Kristine |
I mentioned this to Heather in a pm-
Hubby and I are willing to pay for vet costs. The airedale rescue group here in KC gave us a number for a good local vet that does rescues at discount prices. Our thoughts *IF* this is all possible: We can pick him up, take him to the vet immediately. Can we meet in STL on Saturday? Or do you know of a more central local? This little guy is not garbage. |
If he is vetted and totally healthy we can take him Saturday. St Louis is quite a drive for me though, is there anyone that could take him from St Louis up north? |
Thank You all sooooo much. When I saw this guy and saw time ticking I just had to make the post for a call to action. I don't know what it is about this little guy, but something in me says he has something really special to offer. Already he is teaching people that there are so many kind hearts in this world and that this forum is a reflection of the true spirit of humanity!!!
Sorry so syrupie - but it is true! (is syrupie a word?) Probably not! |
edit- we can take him this weekend (if hes vetted and healthy!)
does anyone know if hes good with other dogs? |
he was an owner surrender that had multiple dogs...
shelter man said he was... Echa was turned in because he kept getting the female dog pregant...that is so sad. If the owner was too cheap to get him fixed, he probably didn't take of him very well. that is really all I know. |
Update - the shelter just emailed me and said he can see absolutely no pit in this dog and doubts that he is. Grannie Annie from neosca said the same. (from looking at his picture.)
Also, he assured me he is good with the others at the shelter and appears sociable and sweet. He has confirmed that he will be put down in 25 hours and won't hold him at all as the vet only comes once a month for ..... you know what. |
We need transport... |
jennifer what day will you be picking him up? saturday? and will you be able to get him to the vet right away or will you be holding him for a few days?
and is there anyone that can help transport from st louis to chicago? |
We will only be picking him up if we can find a way for him to get to a foster home. That sounds mean, but we just cannot keep him.
We would have to pick him up tomorrow, as his kill date in Friday 8 am sharp. We would take him directly to the vet, and could *most* likely keep him there for a few days if needed. We really need transport... |

We really need transport... Suggest you start a separate thread: somthing like Urgent! Transport needed from A to B (has anyone volunteered yet?) If people aren't following this thread, they won't know that you need transport. Some vets will board so you may be able to pick him up, take him directly to the vet and have them keep him for a day or so since most people are more likely to be able to help with transport on a weekend. I rec'd this email FYI,
The OES RSQ named "Echobad" was turned into Neosho, Missouri's Animal Control by someone who said that they had bred OES's for many years. The very nice Officer at Neosho's Animal Services told us at FINO RSQ that "Echobad" only has until Thursday afternoon at 4:00 pm. "Echobad" who is not at all bad! (lol!) is really a very calm and a VERY clean Sheepdog. The officer said that "Echobad" is the most careful dog that he has ever seen in a shelter when it comes to getting dirty. He said that "Echobad" is very careful to do his business way outside and to never mess in his area. "Echobad" is 3 years old and weighs about 50 pounds. If you know of any family or friend of your's who is located in the Joplin/Neosho, Missouri area who can help us with "Echobad", it would be wonderful, ie: if they could Foster, Board, Assess, Transport, or Adopt this Sheepie named, "Echobad". The people who turned "Echobad" into Animal Control said that he may have a bit of Beagle in him or perhaps even a bit of pitt bull terrier. But, "Echobad's" spirit is not broken, though he is a very calm dog. Sadly, "Echobad" may have always been kept outdoors before he was turned into AC. To see a photo of him go to: www.Petfinder.com and then: go the the left hand column. Put in 'Dog", then put in 'Old English Sheepdog" and then under location put the zip code: 64850. If you have trouble, let me know and I will e-mail "Echobad's" photo to you directly. "Echobad" & I look forward to hearing from you concerning "Echobad". Donations towards "Echobad's" Veterinary costs would be greatly appreciated, ie for his shots, neutering, etc.! Many thanks and with much love, Worden Willis, Pres. 561-674-6289 F.I.N.O. So he was rescued then?
This is the husband that was going to drive down there and pick him up. I just want to make sure I am reading it right that they or someone in their group has already picked him up. |
I just called the fino rescue guy for clarification. Hopefully they will call back soon. My impression was that they would help us once you got the dog. This was one of the many cries for help I made on rescue sites! Yeah I think there is hope for this boy yet. |
Rec'd this from Worden
Hello~ Susan~ How are you~ Thank you so much for sending to me the original e-mail yesterday about "Echabod". (Oh gosh, what a name). I called the nice officer yesterday, but he said that we only have until Thursday afternoon to get "E" out of there. He is set to be PTS early Friday morning at 6:00 am. He said that a longtime OES and Pit Bull Breeder relinquished "E" and they said that a Beagle had gotten together 5 years ago with one of their Pit Bulls. Then, that dog bred with an OES and then "E" was born. I live way down near Ft. Lauderdale. I just DO NOT want for him to be PTS. If you know of someone who could take him, that would be great! Do you know of anyone who might want to Foster or Adopt "E"? I am already sending out e-mails to everyone whom I know who might want to Foster or to adopt "E". I have called some Vets in Neosho, Missouri, but am not having luck. One vet gave me the number of a boarding facility, but I can't seem to get through and there is no messge machine. Luv, Worden Willis 561-674-6289 |
HE STILL NEEDS OUT ASAP!!!!
I just realized that I posted him on Posted: Mon Feb 18, 2008 3:47 pm Post subject: Echabod Neosho, MO He has been waiting to be saved awhile |
I am glad the Florida guy reached you. I have emailed and phoned but no reply. Is someone still set to pick him up tomorrow? |
Worden is a woman
I just hope Echobad get out tomorrow. I don't know if anyone is going to pick him up. |

Boy, that was close!!!!!!! |
You're not kidding! He only had about 18 hours to live! |
