If you re-cork it, you can expect it to keep for maybe a couple of days.
I have a stopper and a vacuum pump - if you take the air out of the bottle, you can keep it for longer - maybe a week-ish. |
Well jeez... wish I would have known that before I opened it. I've already poured a tall glass for Mr. J for dinner to try to get rid of some. Of course he's not home yet, so the glass looks so lonely sitting on the table. I want to drink soooooooooooo bad ...like the entire bottle. It tastes so good [but I'm bf'ing and can't].
Anyone have some good recipes that requires a lot of red wine? I'll have to look myself, but I don't want this good stuff to go to waste. |
Of course do what's right for you and baby - but - the American Academy of Pediatrics says it's alright to have an occasional glass of wine: http://www.breastfeeding-basics.com/html/ask/wine.shtml (just one reference...you can find many).
My best friend is a pediatrician. She often prescribes a beer a day to nursing mothers with low milk production because the brewers yeast helps, and the volume of alcohol won't hurt the baby. My opinion, have a glass and enjoy. |
Thanks. I knew a little won't hurt [and also about the beer, but "a little" isn't worth it for me.
I've been craving it for sooooooooooo long that I'm losing my mind. I want to get my drink on. It was the first thing I wanted when I got pregnant yet haven't had any alcohol since I was pregnant with my first (so over 3 yrs). I have never had red wine so I would hate to know if I should even drink half a cup. I've only had alcohol a handful of times, and each time it's only taken one drink. I also hear and was told it's better to express your milk for the next feeding and just bottlefeed "just in case" [and b/c if you're buzzed or anything then it's too much for the little one] ...but I can't since I have 0 milk stored up and don't believe in feeding from a bottle for at a few months. I remember last time I planned on getting buzzed with my friends so spent all week storing up milk so I can have an entire night of letting it run through my body and lil J will have something to eat ..............that night came and our outing was canceled b/c the boys had to go to the field. Never had the opportunity again. Sigh... Can't a girl get a night out anymore? ...would probably help if I didn't keep getting knocked up. |
If you use wine to cook with - freeze the leftover wine in an ice cube tray. Then you can add it to sauces when you need it. |
wine oxidizes once it is opened. So go ahead and have no more than 4 ounces...you'll feel it if you aren't a drinker. Remember to drink at least twice that much in water since alcohol is dehydrating.....don't want to stop the flow.
As for cooking: Beef takes red wine well: stew, brisket, pot roast. |
Yep, you gotta use it pretty quickly before it goes bad.
I'm with you on wanting a glass of wine or a beer! It sounds so good to me right now! I say, pour yourself a little glass, then pour the rest into a beef bourgingon-type dinner. Or, if you like sauteed mushrooms, it's a good way to deglaze the pan with a little red wine. Or add a little to some spaghetti sauce. |
Think of all those European women breast feeding.......do you seriously think they have stopped drinking beer or wine? They don't drink to excess anyway since it is part of their daily cuisine. |
Good ideas on the food. I did take a few sips despite what I thought I'd do last night. I kept staring at the glass, and it smelled so good. I think it's mostly cravings talking.
Hopefully i use a good amount of the red wine friday/saturday. Already have tonight's meal planned, so that's out. |
You can always use it tonight to get Mr. J drunk and take advantage of him |

.....and here comes baby #3....... |
He casually asked me if I wanted #3 this April
I told him I couldn't even if I wanted to since I doubt the LO will be sleeping through the night yet, and I read moms need to have a 6 hr time period of not bf'ing before one can ovulate. I know many moms get pregnant by their 6 wk check-up, but they said their kiddos must not be getting bf at night giving their body time to ovulate and then of course 2 wks later ...get their period. I never did the entire 13 months I bf. Maybe next April For now, he's convinced me that I won't be happy unless we have a big family. |

Oooooh, don't believe that for one second! I BF all three exclusively and through the night for at least 5 months and with each one I had my period on their 28th day of life. It ALL depends on your hormone levels...SOME people can not get pg while breastfeeding, but I sure could. The 6 hour rule is only a guideline, I guarantee it. I have had a lot of miscarriages, and I had one when my youngest was 6 weeks....didn't even know I was PG and that kid was still nursing every three hours around the clock. DO NOT RELY ON THAT THEORY! |
Yeah, and I know of one woman who even has ovulation problems and she had her first ovulation just 5 weeks after giving birth and she is definitely breast feeding all day/all night! |

YOU won't be happy or HE won't be happy? Fine, let him BF and deplete his bone and teeth calcium supply............. |
I secretly pretend to him and our friends that I hate the idea of another kid, but I already know I want another one (boy). I even bought another pair of maternity pants that was 70% off at Old Navy the other day b/c I loved my last pair so much. HE doesn't know that though.
I never thought I'd say this b/c I've spent my entire life trying to get rid of it, but I wish I was one of those who got their period while bf'ing. I realize most people must think we're crazy to have more and even I hate when I see someone dragging a million kids around at the grocery store b/c they're all wild and dirty, but I think with good parenting ......it's wonderful to see and be a part of a big family. |
I love how this thread turned from using up red wine to having more babies!
What maternity pants did you get? |
Just a lowrise half panel one. They're so hard for me to find b/c they're never LONG enough and i have a flat butt, so they've got to have a very short ....is it called rise? I don't know, but then there's the dang panel part that starts to fall down my butt an hour after wearing them, so I've got the half my thong is showing look. Grrrr...
How's your pregnancy going? Isn't your gender appt coming soon???????!!!!!!!! And most importantly, how you feeling? Just want to tell you, labor sucks. |

Thanks, Jo...for all your comforting words and reasurances! Pregnancy is going well. Just moving right along. Baby is 1 pound 4 ounces right now. She's a girl It's funny because I have really nothing to complain about with this pregnancy, but I can't wait for it to be over. I just don't love being pregnant, despite not having many aches or pains or sickness and I'm not even big yet. Oh well, just 17 more weeks |
Good! I know that has to feel good to not look like a cow while you're pregnant. .........and as you see, you don't lose your preggers brain when you deliver. i knew you were having a girl! I've lost it.
I'm so excited that you're almost done. Then we'll have newborn talk to annoy everyone with. Hopefully the other mommies on here with a little bean in them will post their stories too. |

Ummm... do they make maternity thongs? |
...yes, and they're wonderful to wear although I'm not sure how they're too different from normal low-rise ones. |

Grrrr... Ummm... do they make maternity thongs? That's what I was wondering too! I haven't yet ventured into the world of maternity underwear! I just don't see how a thong would be comfortable while pregnant...but I don't like them normally! |
oh lordy. I can't imagine life w/o them. Besides, my butt needs any help it can get in pants, and thongs give it a little badunkadunk look. |
