Can dogs get colds?

Over the weekend our Clark has developed a rather mucusy cough. It started on Friday with some coughing and by Sunday night you could hear stuff rattling around. When he sleeps you can hear snot in his nasal passages and in the morning he coughs like he's trying to clear phlegm? So is this kennel cough? Or just a cold? Should I be really worried or will it pass like a normal humans will in a week or so? Anything that I can give him to help ease the symptoms a bit?

I would definitely take him in to the vet to have it checked out, it could be just kennel cough, or full blown pnuemonia.... better safe than sorry.
Hope it's nothing serious :)
I agree - it's probably kennel cough BUT it's better safe than sorry for sure. If that's what it is, then I think the most common course of action is a period of quarantine for several weeks until it is cleared. Tucker had it back in the fall, despite the fact that he's been vaccinated against it, although he had a mild version with no cough, just tons of sneezing. It didn't really affect him too adversely and cleared up quite nicely.
We're taking him to the vet this afternoon. I hope it is just a little kennel cough and nothing serious. However I just read all the postings dealing with Daisy passing away from a bacterial infection and now I'm just paranoid!

Hi,

Just wanted to send you my good thoughts. How did the vet appointment go?

Blue, Merlin and Panda are sending sloppy sheepie kisses to your boy and hope he feels better soon!

Looks like he's going to be ok. The vet said he was really healthy and no extra fluid in his lungs or nose. Figures he may have an allergy and as we were burning a wood fire all weekend that may have been what was making him sound congested. So we have some antihistamines to try. Last night was much better. Such a relief!
Glad to hear he is okay.
