Traction Shoes????
My son has a 15 yr old Golden girl who is heathy except for problem getting up. Most of his house has hardwood floors & tile. Any ideas or help would be so welcome. thx, sue |

| Rubber backed scatter rugs like used in a bath or as runners around the house was the best solution for our senior guy. |
| Sue, try paw or mushers wax. We tried runners with rubber backing for Beau but he didn't like them. You can get the wax from JB Wholesale and most likely PetEdge. |
| Winston has Ruffwear's "Bark' n Boots Grip Trex." He doesn't mind wearing them and they have high grip/high traction vibram soles. If we are playing ball inside, I put them on him to give him traction on the wood floors. For day to day use - I agree with Ron - rubber backed scatter rugs are good. |
| What a great idea!!! I should get some for Ole Blue, as a senior he has had trouble getting up and shoes like those described would help.
Sue, you may also mention a harness if you think the shoes wouldn't help. I got one for Blue from Entirely Pets (found them on google). The suggestion came from Val as she had one for Maggie. Soft wrap around thingie with giant handles to assist dog in rising. It's held together by velcro and works great. However he doesn't always have it on so I think I'm going to order some shoes. | The senior in question Kyra is home alone all day. So the rugs of course are good. I am going to order her the boots & wax.
she is the sweetest girl! I am sure the boots won't bother her. Kyra's story is that my son was loading his truck in front of his house one am (about 2 years ago) weather was frigid. Here comes this poor old golden retriever down his street. We later learned that a neighbor put her out. Anyway, my son was late for a job (he owns a remodeling business) He put Kyra in his laundry room w/ water & blankets until he got home. I went over to check on her & was shocked by her horrible condition! I really thought she wouldn't make it through the day. DIL had Kyra vetted groomed etc. The rest is history. We Want to do anything possible for her. thanks for the ideas. |

I have never heard of a Golden that old. 
I remember about 14 yrs ago running into a Golden at my Vet in NJ that was 13 yrs old and a former movie star (Was in the movie The Toxic Avenger). My Vet said it was the oldest Golden they had ever had the pleasure of caring for. This dog also could not walk on slippery floors....like the vets office. I hope the boots help and best wishes to Kyra. |
