| Could the knee be painful so he's chewing at the fur.
Could it be an allergy or contact dermatitis (probably wouldn't be limited to just one knee though)? Hot spots can be very itchy... there are no sores under the fur? Anxiety or maybe a compulsive behavior? |

| I'd have the vet look at this. Might be an injury, arthritis, and those other items mentioned. Often mental stress is played out in some compulsive behavior. Is the dog getting enough exercise and mental stimualtion? They aren't house ornaments, they are animals with real physical and emotional needs. Has something changed within the house.......new baby? |

Could be a staph infection - just recently Patch licked and dug and itched her one paw between the toes until it was raw. It was a staph infection quickly healed by some anti-itch medicine and antibiotics. Taking your dog to the vet is the quickest way to take care of his problem. |
| Pepsi chews the fur off of his lower legs when it reaches a certain length, greater than 3 inches.
I keep him short most of the time as he prefers that. Once I cut his hair, the chewing stops. |
| Tasker tends to chew more when his hair is long as well.
If the skin is not broken you can try something like Bitter apple, needs to be applied daily but the taste can be a deterrant. DO NOT use it on broken skin. |
