I found a formula that works for removing urine smells if you are patient. It may be patented, but then again, its all household items, so I don't know. Anyways, here goes. Its so simple, yet it seems to have worked for me, on old spots and new ones, although some people have had to treat more than once. 1 cup 3%peroxide 1 level teaspoon baking soda 1 drop liquid hand soap Mix in a small plastic or glass bowl with a plastic spoon for fifteen seconds, and pour directly on spot to be treated, making sure to soak the entire spot. Don't be afraid to sniff around to make sure you get the whole spot. Do not soak up, let air dry for two days, some carpets take less drying, some take longer. You can set a fan to blow on the area to dry it quicker. Once the spot is finally dry, it should be odor free. This worked on an extremely smelly pee spot for me. Don't put this in a sealed container as the peroxide and baking soda mixture will cause it to explode possibly. You can't see the oxidation, but believe me, its there. Like I said, it worked for me, and its really really cheap to make. I figured anything is worth and try, and so far so good in our household. Good luck! |

Mm, I'll have to try this. I've used peroxide on the carpet for bloodstains, which works but does discolor the carpet, although my carpet is so trashed it doesn't matter. Wonder if it would work on Faygo red pop that Jonah so lovingly spilled all over |

Holly, the best stuff for blood stains is that stuff we bought from that guy at the DKC show a few years ago. He swore it would work on urine, and it doesn't work at all on that but it takes bloodstains out like nobody's business. I forget the name of it but I have a whole big bottle left is you want some (and you tossed yours!). Yeah, good luck on redpop- NOTHING takes that out. I dumped some on my bedroom carpet and I tried everything on it. It's down to a dull pink after a couple of years. The staying power of that soda is amazing. They should use it in red hair dye so it'll last longer. |
Thanks Jill, I threw away the empty bottle and didn't save the info . Cobo is early this year but maybe I can pick some up when we go. |
I have used this in several spots on my medium tan cheap army housing carpet. So far no discoloring, there was a slight "spot" that vacuumed up, probably from the baking soda. |

With food grade red stuff including wine, after plain water and toilet tissue (more absorbent than any towel or tissue) get thee to a janitorial supply store. They have cleaners especially for red dye removal. It does indeed take a different type cleaner.....I don't think my old standy Motsenbockers Lift Off (#1) would work on some of that pop color. As for using it in hair color.....now there's a thought! Alas, you are right, red hair color does fade quickly |
A mixture of vinegar and water will remove blood stains, and I'd almost bet it would take care of the red pop and urine smell too. Good luck. |
