i took the vet's advice on saturday and bought a halti (little noose that goes over the dogs face, to stop them pulling on lead)... funnily enough, the girl at the place was pushing hard to get me to take classes from her for alfie; her classes handled "sit" "down" "stay" etc.. i took great pride in telling her that alfie knows all of these commands, and in fact the only area giving me problems was walking so anyway, i then drove round to the park, having left the halti on to get him used to it.. we got out the car and within 2 seconds he had shaken it off! i put it back on, and tightened it, and he shook it off again!! we went into the park without it. having spent some time walking him round the house, i took him to the park last night, and MIRACLE... he walked by my side all the way to the park. he tried to shake it a couple of times but i just jerked it gently to lift his head and he walked on... im so amazed at this, and it means alfie can now start getting out more than the bare minimum walks, which is what he's been getting lately because the pulling is so bad its taken the fun out of it; he actually pulled my girlfriend to her knees in the street last week!! so if anyone needs help with walking, i strongly recommend one of these things |

Summer is much better since we started using a harness. Car harness but does the same trick./ I have got 2 haltis though somewhere from my other dogs. |
Glad the halti is working on Alfie...can't wait to see the pics of his 'haircut'
I just love Alfie.... |

Thats weird how some things work and some things dont i bought a car harness, which i still use for that purpose... walked alfie on it once, and he stopped every time i pulled... then he learned that he has more power under there than round his neck and just pulled like hell ok guys i promise i will post pictures today at lunch, which is in 1/2 an hour |
I use a Halti for Sammy as I didn't want to risk matting his coat up and it's great, I was a bit worried about him being able to get it off when I first started using it though. I tried using his car harness for walks but he just pulled more
There is so many things on the market now for training dogs it's hard to know what to choose |
Ok,
as promised, ive put some pics up, sorry for the delay they should be viewable soon |
He's growing up fast! I'm glad you were able to get the halti to work for you, too. I use the gentle leader and it works great for the wigglebums. No pulling and they are perfect angels when it's on. |
Happy the Alfie is walking so nice , I use a gentle Leader (almost same thing) and Dutch walks great with it, I put the leash on both the leader and her choke just to be safe because my shepherd once got out of his leader when we were walking. I have two car harnesses but she pulls to much when using them and she can get out of both when I use them in the car |
