GOONEY BEHAVIOR

Tonight our new dog-sitter came over to meet the gang (first meeting).
Shelby & Corky were fine, they acted like they always do.

On the other hand Fergus was a complete goon
I actually felt embarrassed like he was a child misbehaving.
He charged the sitter & me jumping all over us w/ his claws digging into our
clothes & skin 8O . He didn't try to bite. I have never seen him act like this before??????He wouldn't relent. I had to push him down to the floor & hold him till he calmed down. What the heck happened??????????

8O

GOt to love the OES puppy stage 8O :D 8O :D
Stage...isn't it a permanent behavior?? 8O
Corky & Shelby were great so they will be able to stay home while we are on vacation.
Fergus will have to be boarded for the week. I was going to do that anyway b/c my boys fight. I don't want the sitter dealing w/ that.
The boarding is very nice. It is at my vets in the "luxury suite"
I feel guilty, but I know the staff & am sending Fergus w/ special treats & toys.
Does everyone feel this way (guilty) when they have to leave their sheepies?
We have always taken our dogs away with us. When we had our last sheepie, she had to go in kennels as she was only about 8 months old and as mad as a hatter. We darent take her with us and leave her alone in the chalet. Easter coming we are going in a chalet, we always do for Easter, and Summer is coming with us! I am sure she will be fine, she is not so disobedient as Katy was. Suddenly when Katy was 2 years old she turned into the most obedient sheepie you could wish for. It was as if someone had turned a switch on. So Katy went into kennels about 3 times and she was fine. I must find a photo of Katy at the chalet park I have some lovely ones of her....I can look at them now without crying..

I was spoiled, for years my father used to watch my smaller dogs until I got my 1st OES, Simon.
My dad was not able to watch Simon because he had Simon's brother, Bronco and 2 at a time were too much for him.
I was a nervous wreck (and feeling guilty) considering whether or not to kennel. A friend of mine referred me to the most wonderful woman who has a kennel in the lower level of her house.
After meeting her and inspecting the kennel I was totally at ease with my decision.
We still board at her kennel (13yrs so far) and thankfully I feel as though I am dropping my dog off at my sister's to be watched.
I will be lost if she ever gets to a time when she doesn't kennel any longer. :(

(I wish all kennels could work out as perfectly as this one has for me)
My dog sitter also boards in her home. After she saw & felt Fergus' behavior
she felt it wouldn't work.
The vet kennel is very nice (too expensive though).
My dogs stayed there for a long week-end once & all was fine.
I am also am bringing a gift basket for the kennel staff.
A little buttering up can't hurt :D
I have a 33 year old son nearby, he is not very reliable :( .
He leaves doors open, gates etc. He once left me cordless handset on top of a neighbor's car, sigh!
I wouldn't relax if he was the sitter.

Do they EVER become reliable? The very few times I had my son come over just to feed and let the boys out he would forget to feed them or not fill the water bowls

   I thought it was only my hubby doing these things. We actually drove nearly an hour, parked the car in an open public parking lot for half a day and when we got back to the car heard his phone ring. It was on top of the car!!! 8O

He ALWAYS leaves our front door open (not to mention his fly), cupboards door - hits his head of course, loses the TV remote controls, etc.

I always thought it was a unique "behavior" but now I see he is just "normal".
I'd feel more comfortable letting Chauncey at home to watch our 30 year old son Ryan 8O .............Kathy

Oh I agree
I also have a 31 year old son, I would trust implicitly.
He is with me in CA so that doesn't work.
strange how kids w/ the same parents, brought up in the same enviorenment
can be SOOOOOOOOOO different :?
Lol. I'm 32 and I don't trust my parents to come take care of the dogs! My mom is a bit flighty and she doesn't understand the dynamic of three dogs in the house. They know it and they push her around. Plus, she gets a little forgetful now that she's getting older and I worry she'd just plain forget them. (Sorry, but it's true.) If I asked my dad to watch them, he'd put them in the backyard and never let them back in the house. He firmly believes that an animal's place is outside, not in the home. He looks like he's going to cry when they get on the couch.
I know what you mean about parents, my dad passed away in Oct. and boy could Chauncey get over on him, a kiss or 2 and Chauncey got what he wanted, our cat now OTB as well. Toward the end I did worry he'd forget, and would always call to remind him. If I asked someone else he'd get mad and wasn't shy about telling me  It was something he needed to feel needed, so I just checked up on him....discreetly.
Bobby's dad is a harder sell but tends to over feed ( he had a 27lb min. duchsund ( sp) oh heck, little yappy weiner dog ) . With him I worry we'll come home to a 200 lb sheepie 8O I honestly hide the treats.

Me too! I had Barkley with me at christmas and while I was getting ready to leave, I turned around for a second to talk to someone and when I turned back Barkley had green sugar cookie icing on her face and my Dad was trying to hide his cookie behind his back! This is while I had the puppy in my arms.. I can't imagine what he would do if I wasn't even there!
I did put Obe in a boarding facility once and he did good, yes I felt guilty especially when I got to where I was going and other people had their dogs. 99.9 % I take Obe with. I have left him with my parents once and he did good but I missed him like crazy. When I go to Atlanta for the weekend, this woman I met insists that Obe comes. OES are such chick magnets.

 So true.
Hello OES,
We are new to your web....that is Bojangle and I. He picked me at our rescue 1 month ago, I have a pug and the 2 have become inseperable almost instantiously. He also acts goofy when my oldest son comes kinda like roop dee doo roop de doo...what's up with that? I cannot imagine not having him since the moment we met. He is the dog that I have been waiting my whole life for. I know that sounds a bit dramatic but it the honest truth.
Hey while I am here does anyone ever heard of the smart bump? My bo has one...too funny. It is actually called the stoll. Do all OES have 'em? 8O
