I was sitting on the couch watching TV and Rags jumps up next to me. As she was standing on the couch face towards me I petted her head. I knew if I didn't she would bulldoze me with her head to get attention. I know the way she works. She turned with her rear towards me as she was getting ready to lie down. So I gave her a little massage on her back, right above her nubby which I know she enjoys and then she layed down. As she stretched out she did a kangaroo kick with her right rear leg. Her paw connected with my left eye and HARD. My eye was open when it happened. I actually had to pick some fur out of my eyeball. My eye is swollen right now and red. If this turns into a black eye.... I wonder how many people will actually believe what happened. I figured if I ever got a black eye from the dogs it would definitely have been from Rags in one of her bulldozer maneuvers. But never in a million years would I have thought that I would have been kicked in the eye. I am sharing this story as I figure you'll all get a laugh about it. I'm even laughing about it. |

OUCH!
That'll teach ya for not taking your head butting. I hope your eye is A-OK. |
ouch! bet that hurt. Summer is very good at wacking you with her paw! |
OWIEEEE!!! I always thought head butts were the worst...BUTTTT.... (sorry, didn't mean to chortle..Hope you don't get a shiner...Would love to be a fly on the wall when you explain it!!) |
Oh E, I hope you are ok! I am sure by this morning you will know the damage.....add it to the list of sheepie/kid accidents. jeez |
These dogs remind me of little ponies. And they are very unpredictable? |
Ouchhh! I hope your eye is OK, E. That had to hurt! |
OWWW You have my sympathy!
Your story brought back memories of one of the forum members who posted a few years ago about the same thing happening to them. In her case, she did have a black eye as a result, and her poor hubby had to withstand dissaproving looks for some time. Hope your eye feels better! Sending you hugs! Marianne |
No black eye! Still a little swelling and my eye looks bloodshot, but I can totally deal with that.
Sherr, I wouldn't say they are unpredictable. My dogs are totally predictable. But I definitely was not expecting the leg kick out, as that is something I have never seen her do. She was not trying to hurt me, but rather adjust her back leg to a more comfortable position. I think. About 5 yrs ago I got a kangaroo kick from Harley (GSD at the Bridge) He was sleeping and I sat down next to him. He was sound asleep. All of a sudden he does this kick (mind you, he only weight a few lbs less than me) and I went flying off the couch. Hubby was sound asleep and did not see it and also did not believe me. But a short time later hubby was hit with a kangaroo kick while annoying Harley while he was asleep. He couldn't believe how hard he kicked. I guess he thought I had over exaggerated. |
OUCH!!!!!!!! |
Ouch! I am glad you don't have a shiner...what would the neighbors think? |
If it makes you feel any better, I got gored in the face again by Bear this morning. I snuck up on him and he swung around, mouth open, and jammed his tooth in my chin. It broke the skin a little but didn't penetrate like the piercing through the lip did last year.
I'll vouch for you if you vouch for me. |
Oh my goodness! One of the advantages of glasses is that at leat your eyes are protected! Hope you are OK! |
Hope you and your eye are feeling better |

Elissa, as long as they don't scratch your eye you shouldn't worry! Both hubby and I were "lucky" to be scratched in the eye. We both saw lightening when it happened (I even thought my eye ball fell out - GROSS!) I had a red line in my eye for weeks. And of course it hurt bad!
Doctor sad "Next time try to close your eyes." |
Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope its feeling much better today E |
Owie! I bet that really hurt. Eyes hurt! Hope you heal fast |
Oh no! Poor E! I can totally picture that happening, though. I think we would have demanded pictures if it had turned into a black eye... |
Hope the eye's soreness goes away soon! |
Hope it's getting better now, Elissa. I always have to watch both the wigglebums especially when they're getting belly rubs. They get a little wild with their feet flailing around sometimes and I've been scratched & kicked in the face more than once. Crazy mutts. |
Thanks guys, I am feeling better. Just going to be extra cautious the next time she sits down next to me. Maybe a hand over the eye for the first few minutes.... until she's settled.
I am still trying to figure out how she kicked up the leg that high? |

I am still trying to figure out how she kicked up the leg that high? In her previous life, she was a can-can dancer?? |
Wow.. I'm sorry about your eye! That sounded painful!
You know... I've only had a black eye once in my life, and it was from a dog too. They're frisky little buggers. |

Rags says she's ready for that. She says, "See Aunt Darcy!! I can stand on two legs, I'm ready to be a rockette! |
Hi I hope your eye feels beter - That can can dancer is so way funny. |
