Mysterious sore bleeding slowly above eye...

I am attaching a picture of a frightening region above our 9-month old's left eye. There had been something there for about a week, black. We thought it was a stickler he got from running into some bush, but when we cut it out we noticed it looked more like dry, caked blood. That was yesterday. We put antibiotic on the wound, but it seems to keep bleeding very slowly.

We are lost as to how this occurred, what it might indicate, or how best to treat it. We're putting antibiotic ointment on daily now.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ouchie.
I wonder if it could have been a cyst. Does he scratch at it?
I think it's best to have a vet take a look at it since it's so close to the eye.
It looks like he cut himself. Hard to tell how deep it is. It sounds like it must be deep enough, if it keeps oozing.
I would take him into the vet, have them shave a bit around it and clean it, probably stick a couple stitches in it. If it goes too long, the wound edges are too old and they can't stitch it.
Definately take him to a vet. I looks like a cyst or abcess has popped.

You might need more then just anti-biotic cream to help it heal and I would be seeking vet advice before applying any ointment so close to the eye.
Rags has a cyst above her eye. Luckily it hasn't grown and has never bleed. I was concerned when I found it. The Vet said I shouldn't be unless it grows or burst. I would see the Vet.
I would definitely get the vet to take a look. If it was an abcess they may want to take cultures to see exactly what kind of bacteria it is and then prescribe antibiotics...
Hopefully it's nothing
My kitten had something a while back that looked similar at first - it turned out to be a fungus! Not sure if this is the same though, as Zora's (cat) end up getting really scabby...in any event, head to the vet. Zora's was solved with an antibiotic cream so hopefully yours is equally as easy to solve.

Let us know!
Yuck! You'll have to tell us what the vet says. Looks like it could be fixed relatively fast, but you never know with these things! Good luck!
So, what did the problem end up being? My dog, I think, has the same problem. I cannot see your photoas anymore, so I can't be 100% sure.

How did you treat it?
Hi and welcome to the community.

You might want to send the original poster a "PM" (Private Message) through the forum.
The missing pics is one major reason we have been running our own photo gallery... I'm sorry that the photos weren't loaded there. And good luck with your dog!
I did send a PM also, just in case. Appears the OP hasn't checked in here for a couple of years.
Great! That user has selected to be notified of PMs bia email and it didn't bounce back to me, soooo with any luck...
Thank you for your concern.
As of now, my wife and I have been applying "propolis" (which is the materials bee's make their hives out of for those who don't know) in the last couple of days, and it may be having some positive effect. I will post updates as they come.
For anyone else who may have this problem, I am pretty sure it is:
Canine Cutaneous Histiocytoma

It is basically benign and will regress after 3 months or so. The affected area should be kept free of possible infectious areas/items/places (like lakes, etc.).
