Our little Dusty started 'scooting' the other week, not very attractive! So I took her to the vets and it was her anal glands...has anyone ever had the same problem????? The vet emptied the glands and said it could happen again or be a one off?? Is it something we are doing wrong and thats why it happened?? x |

Some dogs have problems, others don't. Make sure whatever you're feeding her is giving her nice firm stools-- constantly soft stools don't allow the anal glands to naturally express. |
We've had several discussions on this stinky subject. Go to the top of the home page and do a search in the OES.org box for "anal glands" or cleaning anal glands." I'm sure plenty will come up.
Did the vet show you how to clean them? It's not a big deal when you have the dog in the tub for cleaning. But be warned, it stinks, have a tissue handy over your hand to catch the bounty. Wouldn't want that stuff in my face |
We've got a sheepie that we have to empty every couple of weeks.
(I shouldn't make her sound like a vacuum cleaner ) Quote: Did the vet show you how to clean them? Learn how to do it and you can save some money and ease the dogs discomfort quickly without having to leave home. A vet tech taught me how to do it internally. Not pleasant but something that needs to be done to stop the scooting and also to avoid infection/impaction. Quote: Wouldn't want that stuff in my face
The vet tech warned me about that... she said the vet who taught her got squirted in the mouth. Ewwww. So have a tissue ready! |
