I have been waking up every night to this strange scraping noise and finally one night I was able to find out what it is; Kobe is digging the carpet outside my room, my son's room, the living room, and various other locations. I cannot for the life of me figure out why he is doing this, aside from being comical I really do not understand why he is suddenly doing this. Anyone have any ideas, experience or suggestions. So far I am the only one to hear it, or catch him doing it (being a mom I sleep very lightly). My husband still doesn't believe me. Thanks. |

Chewie lays in front of doors at night too.
It sounds like Kobe is digging (nesting) in each place before he lays down. Perhaps the new move triggered it - he probably is trying to find his perfect spot. When our Riley did it on our couch, we told him "no" and looked at him until he stopped. He would peep at us to see if we were still watching. Then he would lay down and curl up. |
Q does the same thing. I have no idea why, but you are not alone.
The late Pandora would lie in the hall and run against the wall in her dreams, not at all good for the paint. Who can understand them!?! |
Yeah, Glacier does it. She no longer stands to dig, but flops on her side and sidestrokes. Has ruined a old Karastan rug........sigh. |
Clyde not only does it on carpet, but he used to do it on the tile floor for what seemed like forever when you're trying to sleep. He kind of grew out of it and now my Komondor does it-- even louder, but just on the carpet. Thank God for Ambien. |
I agree with the nesting thing: we have a slipcover on our loveseat and sometimes Tucker will do it forever before he eventually lies down!! He likes to pull the slipcover up so it's all bunchy underneath him.
Soooo strange. And I love him all the more for it |

Oh yes the sidestroke...got it bigtime here Beebles does this to unwind*a guess* Never seen the sidestroke performed on dry land Got the digging & turning in circles as well ...to make a comfy *another guess* spot on carpet, hardwood (grrrr) or tile Very annoying...I agree Still love her Diane |
Our Yorkie mix does this on the fabric couch, which is now shredded. We covered the couch with a blanket so now she moved to another section of the couch.
Rags also does this occassionally on the carpeting. |
Neither of my boys dig at night, only my lab/hound mix tried to hide his marrow bone by digging in the corner of our bedroom on the carpet. He was obviously having a hard time hiding it so I gave him a blanket to cover his treasure. He was very pleased with his job.
Did you put that carpet down? Do you know if other animals have been there before? |
