just planted a tree

i just bought a new tree and planted it out back... i was worried that roofus would try to help dig it up (wouldn't be the first time) so i sprayed no dig stuff all over it. We put a piece of sod we had ripped up around it so it wouldn't be so tempting, all that lovely, loose, wet dirt!

So later we see roofus carrying what we thought was a flat playground ball around the yard... it was the circle of sod!!

DOH!

:o

 I'm dying! Too funny! Is the baby tree ok? What kind didya get? I can just see him carrying that sod around... Look mom, a tasty new grass flavored toy! Hooray!

Karen :)
Ya gotta love em. I hope your sheepie outgrows this need to garden. Otherwise be prepared for many battles of the wits.......which you will not win.
it's some kind of ornamental pear... it was $8 at the anderson's, all their trees were 75% off! :)

i dont think he will do anything to it, it's 12' tall.... but i say that and in a few minutes he'll probably uproot the darn thing and drag it around the yard!
A Callery pear, probably Bradford. Pretty fall color. Just a word of warning about buying trees, if they seem awfully big for the pot, think about the roots. They could be all kinked up inside and the kink never goes away. Yes, the root tips may grow out, but that kink remains.....which could result in tree death several years down the road. That said, yeah, I buy the sale stuff too, but realize I'm taking a chance
Hey TotallyRoofus, it's great that you planted a tree! Way to go!

We tried to have some backyard some time ago, but seems that the guys just won't let us.... They dig, dig, dig all day no matter how hard we tried, they even tried to dig out a 12 feet tall tree!

Hope you are luckier than us and that your ornamental pear grows nicely. We planted one last year but it did not liked the soil it was planted on and ended up dying  We have an orange and a tangerine tree that reside on a very high planter and the guys so far have left them alone, and they already have 2 tiny fruits!

Good Luck!

By the way... What kind of no dig stuff did you use? Maybe that one will help us!
it's not a bradford, i would remember that. :) if it weren't cold out i'd go look at the tag... i, for some reason, name my trees... that one i was going to name Bradford, to make up for its not being one, when i perked up and thought, that would be a great name for an OES!! So I named it Hamilton. Not that it had anything to do with oes but hey now you know. ;)

It's just called No Dig, they also make No Stay and No Go and No Scratch (for cats). It was on sale for $5 at complete petmart, usually it's like $11 or $12. I wouldn't say it *works* per se, it just make him stop for a fraction of a split second so he KNOWS he's being a bad boy!!! I'm about to move on to cayenne pepper, I just wanted to use up the rest of it first. :) It's mostly garlic, doesn't smell though.

we bought some chicken wire to protect my plants... we just moved in here and i spent hundreds of dollars on landscaping. my azaleas are all dead now, and my sweet henry, flowering almond, and rhodondendron all have about three leaves each. Time to install little doggie fences!!!!
