In the grooming section we got to talking about how many Ontario members there are, and I was wondering where everyone is! I'm not exactly sure what they do at Sheepiepalooza because I've never been, but maybe we could organize something like that in Ontario at some point. I'm in Petawawa (an hour and 40 minutes from Ottawa), and my parents are in Newmarket (40 minutes from Toronto). Anywhere near either of those locations is easily do-able for me. Anyone else? |
|
That sounds like fun! I am in Welland, Ontario (approx 1 hr SW of Toronto) I love sheepie get togethers! I know alot of people who have pups from me would be game for this as well. |
Present!
Milton....Just west of Toronto... |
Not fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
You can still come, Dudster...just a bit of a drive, that's all |
We'd most definitely will come:) We're in Rochester, New York - My fiance and I have family in London, Kitchener and Milton so please keep us updated! |
I'll be there I'm just a few miles east of Nichole in Bolton |
Sounds like we have enough people....lets start planning!! |
Count us in....we're just in Brampton. |
You people are going to take away the international aspect of my Michigan adventures. You're all gonna blow us off to stick with your Canadian kind, I just know it! |

Nuh-uh!! But if we (at least I can't afford to go anywhere else, at least we can still get together!! |
I'm so excited about this!!
Here is who I have so far - let me know if there are corrections, and let me know what I'm missing: Melanie & Brad (fiance) w/ Tucker Amber w/ ______ (dog's name?) Nicole w/ Bosley & Dixie Laurel and Fiance (name?) w/ London & Tony Jean w/ Duchess Barbara w/ Oakley & Sydney |
Well.....I have Willow, Morgan, Chicus, Virginia, Jesse....and I plan on keeping a pup from my current litter.....so....it will be one or two of these guys |
Kim (wizardmerlin) and I are about an hour and a half north of the GTA, we have 4 oes but would likely only bring one or two.
Sounds like fun! |
I would like to attend! I'm from Toronto.... |
This is going to be so great!
Some questions to get started: 1. Would someone like to help me plan this officially? I would love to have everyone's input if you have ideas so that we can make it a weekend that everyone will enjoy. This leads me to... 2. Does anyone have any ideas of the bat of things they'd like to do? I have never attended an event like this, but according to the search I did, last year they went to an educational event, did some dog-friendly sight-seeing, had space to do agility play and running around, and a pot luck. 3. When should we attempt to schedule this for? I'm thinking summer? Warm weather = less mud! I was thinking we could schedule the location around what's available for us, because I'm assuming that the events will be more difficult than the accomodations. This is going to be great fun! If you know other OES owners who aren't on the forum, please invite them as well! |
Melanie:
I'll start thinking of activities. Perhaps our fellow sheepie lovers to the south will chime in with some ideas to hopefully make this a very successful annual event...I know they will love seeing the pictures!!! |
Rats!! I used to live in Orangeville! Sigh! |

OK, so Aylmer is technically Quebec (yuch) but it is the NCR (National Capital Region) which is centred on Ottawa. Besides I'm a unilingual anglo and still consider myself an Ontarian no matter the street address (unless I'm posted in B.C which I haven't been for over 10 years). How can you guys travel with only part of your family? When we travel the whole pack comes with us or we don't travel. I guess right now if I were to travel half the pack would come with me since Michele still has the other half down in Utah. Anyway keep us updated on a potential get together and I'll see if there is any way I (or we if Michel is back by then) can make it. Plus I'll provide grooming, ear cleaning and any other help, advice, commentary that I can. Thanks and Cheers Carl |
I think we should aim for the summer when the weather is better. I would be more than happy to host the event. |
Road trip ! Let's go . I'm in Ottawa and have 2 girls - Dallas and Panda. |
Hi, everyone! I am thrilled with how many people are interested in this potential event! So far according to my count there are 11 members plus their SOs, giving us a current total of at least 14 people and at least 19 or so sheepies!!!!!
I started doing a little poking around online and some brainstorming just to get the ball rolling since I've never planned anything quite like this before. Right now we have two options (please suggest more if you have them!). The first is to go to Welland, ON where Amber has so kindly suggested to host us. The second is to go to Toronto. Here are a few ideas for what we could do there: Accomodations: Glen Rouge Campground - dogs of all sizes are welcome and there is no additional fee for them. Rates: $30/day for a serviced site and $22/day for an unserviced site. Several hotels are also dog-friendly, including several Holiday Inn locations that are within a few minutes drive of the campground Attractions: Black Creek Pioneer Village ($13/each but with a group of at least 20 is only $11.05/each) Centreville Amusment Park ($5 ferry plus cost of rides, no fee to enter park) City Walks Guided Tours (learn about history, architecture, culture, etc. of Toronto. Dogs welcome, no fee for them, but $12/adult. Tours approx. 2 hours long) Great Lakes Schooner Company (1-2 hour schooner/boat ride, just under $20/person). QUESTION: Would you prefer activities that are free of cost?????? Dog Parks: There are several in Toronto, many of which offer 24 hours/day leash-free fenced-in zones. High Park also has tables, benches, restrooms, and poop bags. Please let me know what you think of these ideas. I'm not attached to any of them, like I said, it was just to get the ball rolling. I was thinking perhaps we could do a mix of things that do and don't cost money so we don't end up spending a fortune (especially for those who already have quite a drive to get there). THOUGHTS???? |
Just a few ideas of things to do in my neck of the woods. Niagara Falls is 15 minutes away...lots to do there. I also thought a good idea would be to hold this gathering the same week-end as a local dog show. I know for example in June there is the Hamilton Kennel Club dog show, which holds both conformation shows and obedience trials. That is an approx 1 hr drive from both Welland and Toronto. Just a thought! |

I like that idea since maybe we'll go with Gabe. Are you showing, too, since that makes a difference in if Gabe shows! I always enjoy a trip to Toronto in the summer. |
I always enter that show! It is out in the country and is a very spacious relaxing show! That would be great if you and Holly could come down with the boys! |
What other things could we do up there?
Are there campgrounds or anything? AND - which weekend in June is this? Thanks! |
Ok, August 15,16 & 17th there is a show in Beamsville (approx 20 minutes from my place) How does this week-end sound for everyone?
There are alot of campgrounds where I live. I will look into this and get some more info. I figure one day we could have everyone over at my place for a BBQ, grooming lessons, socializing, etc. There is lots to do in Niagara Falls (even just a walk down by the falls with all our sheepies I am sure would be a big attraction!) And then anyone interested could venture on over to the dog show in Beamsville. Just a few ideas. Any others?? |
The area around Ambers is gorgeous! And if I follow the directions Amber won't have to come rescue us . Gabe would like to know if he could bring his Texan brother Jonah and his MI buddy Clyde? And no black ice in the summer Jill |
Does anyone know when the passport only at the border starts? Maybe I should work on getting one soon. |
Hi Bestdogs,
The passport requirement has been delayed again until 2009, however as of Jan. 2008 to cross either the Mexican or Canadian border back into the USA you need your birth certificate or other proof of citizenship and a US government photo ID (i.e. a driver license, military I.D.). I sugggest getting a passport, because they are a "machine readable" document and really speed up the border crossing process. Using a birth certificate and drivers license can be slow, because they have to hand inspect the documents. Kathie |

Didn't you say you were working on it the last time we went to Canada? |
Ok, I am a total addict to this forum, so how the heck did I miss this one... If you can handle the travelling zoo that is my life, I would love to come with Maisey-Blue and the twins!!!
Sudbury is about 5 hrs from T.O, but hey, I would love to go. |
Oh, and any planning help needed, let me know. Happy to help! |

Didn't you say you were working on it the last time we went to Canada? Did I say that? The only thing I remember saying is "there's ANOTHER car/truck in the ditch: over and over. Thanks Kathie! Since Gabe is Canadian he'll be shown there so I guess I'll just suck it up apply for the passport. |
I think this is starting to shape up a little!! That weekend works well for me - how about everyone else?
Would we do one night or two? Brad, Tucker and I have a 7 hour drive so could be there not until 11pm on the Friday, but we could drive to Newmarket that day and then the rest of the way first thing Saturday morning. How would the drive be for everyone else?? I am SO excited for this!! We only know one other sheepie, so I would love to meet all of you and the dogs!! |
Welland is a bit over an hour from me....I am between Toronto and Welland....we have a spare room to put up a family with dogs....And as Carl and Michelle would know, room to set up a camper trailer!
Hey, lots of room for tents, too, if anyone wants to tent in my back yard.. A walk in Niagara Falls sounds wonderfull! IN the summer it is always packed with tourists....We'd cause quite the comotion, I am sure! Imagine this picture below, with a row of sheepies walking along .....! |

Of the two weekends that Amber has mentioned I personally prefer the one in June based on the weather. While June can be hot, August WILL be HOT and for my show-coated Bobtails that is a big issue especially if some of us are going to enter the nearby show. That being said I'm not so sure a weekend gathering and showing can really be combined. I know that when we show the preparations, actual showing and clean-up take ALL of our time and effort. Under those conditions we wouldn't be much, or very good company for the get-together. Either way my point of view is that June is better for the dogs' comfort. Thansk and Cheers Carl |
Carl....I agree with you 100% as far as the weather is concerned. A few members who wanted to participate in the get-together could not do so the week-end in June I had suggested. I guess my idea of having the get together the same week-end as a show was just to provide another doggy related activity people could visit while they were down. I myself naturally will be showing at the Hamilton Show in June. We could I guess choose a different week-end in June if that would be better for everyone. |
hey amber, don't forget...........May 29 to June 2 is Barcellona!!
Who knows 'we' (all dogs) may all be up there with you at the time too! Ali & the Crew...... |
Weird...I replied to this post from work last week and just noticed that it never went up! Strange....
Anyway, that weekend in June is no good for me as we're going to a wedding in Kingston. I guess however if that's when everyone else can do it, then go ahead with it. I was hoping to be there, but I don't want to ruin it for everyone else... |
End of June weekend works for Kim and I too |
I'm pretty sure you can add Jill and Clyde (and maybe Bear), and me Gabe and Jonah. Nicole, I can't wait to see sweet Dixie again...I just love that girl |
My husband and I don't have a life...so are pretty much free any weekend......
Holly, Dixie will be there for sure....ready to give those kisses... Those pups will be BIG by the time I see them! Can't wait! |
Hey everyone...
So is it a go ahead for the end of June weekend?? Drat...I was really hoping to go (especially since it was my idea to organize it!)...no chance of doing it some other time, eh? July or something??? |
It does not have to be that week-end in June. That was only suggested by me since there was a dogshow that wek-end anyone interested could watch. I think you should be able to attend since it was your idea, so maybe suggest a week-end in June that works for you and we can see what everyone thinks. |
Doesn't have to be that weekend for us either.... |
Melanie.....why don't you pick a couple of weekends and perhaps we could "vote" on the one that works best for each of us??? Its so nice to see all the interest in this....its bound to be a huge success. |
Hi Everyone!!
I am SO grateful that you are all being so flexible with the dates. I am really hoping we can work something out so that everyone can come. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this!! Here are some dates that work for me - please let me know your preferences. Perhaps make a first choice and a second choice from these options???? June 7/8 June 21/22 July 5/6 July 19/20 I'm also available later than that, but I know the comfort of the sheepies with full coat was an issue so I thought I'd stop there. Please let me know your opinions of these dates. Thanks again! |
Earlier is always better than later. July 4 is our Independence Day so the 5/6 weekend may not be great for anyone coming from Michigan-- which may only be a couple us but I still thought I'd mention it. |
Hi everyone!
Sorry for not replying back sooner - I havent been on here in a while... Jeff and I (and our sheepies, London and Tony) will be attending a wedding in Point Clark on the weekend of June 21st so we'll more likely will swing by on the 22nd if you guys decide on that weekend. Otherwise any weekend works for us except for this time frame:July 22nd to Aug 4th because we're getting married in California and honeymooning in Cabos San Lucas!!! Cant wait! |
June 7/8 or July 5/6 would work best for us.
Would a poll not be an easier way of collecting this information? Instead of someone having to compile a list of the answers and do the math? Craig |
Uh...Craig....you and your logic can just go and....oh nevermind, that's an excellent idea.
Ok everyone, I'm going to post a poll with the dates. If you wouldn't mind re-submitting your request I would really appreciate it. Thank you!! PS Happy Valentine's Day! |
london wrote: ...July 22nd to Aug 4th because we're getting married in California and honeymooning in Cabos San Lucas!!!
WAHOO! CONGRATULATIONS! |
Mel & Tucker wrote: Uh...Craig....you and your logic can just go and....
Funny, I get that a lot... I'm an engineer, I'm almost always looking for an easier/faster way to get things done. |
June 22 is good for us too... no dog show that weekend |
Hi everyone!!!
If you haven't noticed it, please see the NEW post in this Chit Chat section. It has a poll where you can vote for your preferred weekend as well as suggest any activities you are interested in. If you indicate your preference in THIS thread, it won't be tallied with the rest. Thank you! |
Well, I'm hoping it is later or earlier, as we will be in Spain at the Euro...... and we've asked Amber to come with us as well!!! |
Let's move this to the poll thread so all the suggestions are in one place.
