i guess having an easy/quick labor isn't always good. Our new boy has too many fluids in his lungs. Apparently he came down through the canal too fast, so his fluids weren't able to drain from his lungs like they normally would during a longer labor. Have no idea how that works, just that three times tonight... he's choked, turned butt red, eyes rolled back into his head, twitching, swollen, and scared mommy and daddy to death. He's suffocating on this foam stuff and seeing your newborn not breathe and go limp and almost blue is scary. Drs said there isn't anything we can do but monitor him since he doesn't make a sound when he randomly starts choking to death. It should go away in a few days but until then Mr. J and I are afraid to sleep or do anything. It's happened two more times since the 1st time (a little while after I made the original post). Just send good vibes he gets it all out. I'm so stressed whenever I look at him in fear it's about to happen again. We have a syringe thingy to help him. .........and you have no idea how good hearing him cry sounds after seeing him not breathe! |
|
Oh no!
So are you at home now, or in the hospital? I don't blame you for fearing to sleep, I would be too. and prayers to your little guy. |
Congratulations. Your little one is in my prayers. |
Oh my!!!!!! That is so scary.
Our prayers are with you. |
Prayin for you xx I'm sure everything will be fine. |
Prayers and positive thoughts coming your way. |
OH. I am so sorry. It is so scary. Would it help if he sleeps in his car seat? My youngest came down with a cold 3 days after coming home from the hospital. (I had the cold during delivery) It helped for her to breathe in that semi-upright condition. I don't know if it would help with the choking, but you might ask the doctors.
You are in my prayers...all of you. |
very scary....white light and prayers for you all........... |
SCAREY!!
I had that problem with my son, we were at the hospital all of 17 minutes before he was born!!! That was almost 30 years ago and I think they gave us the same reason. Did they tell you to lay him face down lengthwise on you knee with his head slightly lower than his butt and gently pat his back (as if you were burping)? That was what they had me do with my son, said it helped move the fluid out of the lungs. That was of course a million years ago but you might ask. I also remember using that bulb syringe ALOT!!!! Every EMT's nightmare is BABIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sending lots of "mucous moving positive thoughts" your way!! |
Oh my gosh . . . that is terrifying. . . I'm so glad he's ok at the moment - I bet you'll both be watching him like hawks. Please remember to sleep in the between, ok?!! |
Poor little guy...poor you! How frightening. Of course we will pray for him to clear very quickly. These babies are pretty resilient, so lets all keep positive thoughts going. We are here for you, and we have pretty powerful prayers. Please keep us updated on Baby J. |
Extra prayers going out for you and your little one. Feeling helpless is TORTURE!! |

The drs. said to do just this--- pound on the back to bring it from the lungs. Hugs and prayers coming your way. |
Wow, congratulations and sending good, healing thoughts your way. C'mon lil' J #2. Get that fluid worked out! |
I was just congratulating your quick delivery, and then saw this!!!! OMG!!! Mrs J we are here praying for you and your baby Joshee. |
Hope the little man is doing better, how scary .
Amazes me how quick now you are in and out of hospital after delivery. Must be so much more stressing on moms and family to be sent home so quick after. My days (yes I am sounding like an oldie even though I am only 21++++ ) you use to have 7 days for normal birth and 10 days in hospital after a ceaser. By the time you went home you were breast feeding OK and in the meantime baby and you were monitored and help was there and then if any problems. Keeping all positive thoughts flowing that little Joshee fluid clears from his lungs real soon and you can just adore and enjoy your new lil bundle without any worries. |
How scary, good vibes being sent. |
OMG How scary!!
I hope this passes quickly!!! |
I am sorry that you are having this problem, but we are all putting out good thoughts. Just remember to take deep breaths. He has a good mama and the always goes a long way. We wait to hear more when you have the time and energy. |
I can't believe they sent you home so fast. I'm surprised they got you to ever move again after having no epidural. |
Scary but you will do just fine! Keeping him in semi-rclining positon with support will help as will helping him drain secretions on your lap.(see above) Best wishes! keep us posted! |
I've taken everyones suggestions on how to deal w/this.. It has happened three more times tonight. I haven't closed my eyes at all. I freak out seeing my baby go so stiff and lifeless with only the back of his eyeballs looking at me. I keep praying it will go away faster. |
Can you get them to give you an apnea monitor??? The insurance should cover it. |
I am so sorry Jo. I wish I could do more than pray and send good vibes to you. Please keep us posted.
|
Jo, do the doctors say how long it should take for this to clear itself from our new baby? |
They say 3-4 days anytime we ask over the phone. We're taking him in today so will ask again. |
I hope it clears up quickly so you can get to enjoying your new baby with less worry and get some much needed sleep too.... |
ASK ABOUT AN APNEA MONITOR!! |
Just looking at him again, he is a real doll |
thought and prayers with you and your little one |
OMG how frightening. I'm saying a prayer for you all now. Please let us know how he's doing. |
Oh, Jo, how scary! I'm hoping it goes away really fast... |
Thinking of you all Poor baby Joshee he wil be ok wendy and gismo |
This is so scary.
Quote: ASK ABOUT AN APNEA MONITOR!!
Absolutely! You'll be worn out if you can't get any sleep. A monitor will allow you to relax a little. |
Just got back. The hospital is too small and don't have any extra monitors but it totally would be a good idea Apparently he also has reflux, so it's a double whammy when it comes to not breathing (b/c he can also choke some more from spit up).
Anyway, they're letting me take a nap. Must take now. MIL leaves tonight (extended her ticket). I hope all the tips we got help! I love this little screamer. He's going to be a cranky emotional one like his mommy |
Oh bless you all. Hope everything turns out Ok I am sure it will be. Wish you were nearer and then I could sit and watch him whilst you had a nap.... |
Hope Lil' J is doing better. I am so sorry, how scary this situation must be! I'll be praying for you all. |
Oh Joahaeyo

I was so enjoying looking at the beautiful little fellow I'm afraid I forgot why I was posting . Please forgive me and know that you and the little one are in my thoughts and prayers Jean , |
This may seem like a dumb question, but how come he didn't stay in the hospital? It seems like a pretty serious problem-- enough so that it would be wise to have medical staff nearby until it clears up. I'm surprised that they let him go. I'd be paranoid of something happening and not being able to get medical attention fast enough. |
How awful you have to go through this and I can understand your anxiety.
My youngest was born within 2 hours, so quick delivery too, and I had a scare within the first week of his life. My advice..doesn't matter what the doctors tell you, as his mom you have that inate gut instinct and listen to it when you think something is wrong. That mother/child bond is so strong it kinda overides everything. Hope Mr J takes over and you get some rest! Lots of hugs from me Marianne |

That's come across our minds too, butt I guess these guys have to work through it themselves. Drs say there isn't anything they can do. They don't even think most medication for reflux work for their mommies. They do a deep suction and from there time has to run its course (did the suction help or not). |
Awwww, C'mon lil Ronnie, get over this nasty little fluid thingy.
|
Mr and Mrs J I am sure you are at your wits end about this. Get some rest and just hang in there. Remember with each day that passes Joshee becomes more mature and will work his way through this. Positive thoughts and tons of prayers coming your way.
Aussie/sheepie hugs! |
I'm really surprised too that they did not keep lil Joshee in Hospital till the worst of it has passed. Better for mom and dad that he is monitored and if needed help is at hand.
My 2nd boy new born, spent 8 days in an oxygen tent in hospital, he had breathing problems with Bronchilitis and bad reflux so much better it was for all of us as he was being monitored the whole time and we could rest easier then. J thinking of you and the whole family, so dam scary and still can't believe they send you home when your lil man is have problems. Positive thoughts still flowing and I hope it all clears up soon so you can just relax and enjoy your new lil man. Stress levels must be so high at the moment for you all. |

Jo - do you have any medical or RT supply companies around?? We have several companies just in Mankato, and it's not that big of a city. Have your doctor write a prescription and your insurance should cover it. (I do pediatric homecare, in addition to working at the hospital in ortho/neuro) Seeing he is having reflux too, this could go on for awhile. You need your sleep and peace of mind. |
I ditto Dawn............ I did Case Management for awhile and was always arranging for apnea monitors for babies. They come from home care agencies and in your area might take a day or two but the peace of mind would be well worth it. |
GREAT suggestions from Dawn and Ginny!!!
Hope you can get a device soon. You need your sleep-- and like they said, your peace of mind. ((((Hugs))))) Lori |
we think he'll be fine, so that's reassuring! what a rough start. Can't wait to get through this but he will!
we're going to buy a monitor today, and something so he can sleep w/us in an incline (co-sleeper) |
I put my youngest in her car seat when she had a cold at 1 week old. I think you could probably get that at the right angle. Hopefully you will find the perfect thing for it. |
What a rough start for Baby J.
Hoping and praying that this will be resolved soon and you and your family can get start enjoying all your "firsts" with Baby Joshee!!! |
How is baby Joshee doing? Any better now?
Sending hugs and I hope it is improving. |
has anyone heard how Joshee is doing |
