Tell Daddy to read up on variable rate reinforcement... She doesn't get a cookie every time. She is expected to do a little better, stay a little longer, work progressively a little harder and ya just never know when the treat may come. Some times when she does something incredibly brilliant, she even gets a jackpot! But Daddy is not an automatic treat dispenser or why should she try at all? Sheesh - pretty soon he'll have to reward her for breathing And maybe get the treats out of the hand some times Sneaky, sneaky sheepdogs. Too smart for their own good. Nice job training Daddy, Summer! Kristine |

Yeah, it happens. And cute rewards! Cute rewards are big in this house... Have two one year old rescue girls I'm fostering at the moment (sisters) who aren't big on treats (clearly NOT related to the resident clan). Even THEY know how to do the cute begging thing. Then you give them the cookie and they kind of look at you like"I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to do something with this thing...?" My dogs are shocked - simply shocked! - by their lack of education and won't let me place them until they have taught them the ins and outs of people training. Kristine |
yes but sheepies are too damn clever. Summer has been wearing a harness for about 2 weeks. Its a car one but she walks beautifully on it. Yesterday she lifted her leg to put it through the harness. Didnt think anything of it. Until she did it again tonight.... |
We're in our second week of Puppy Training with Tonks and Luna. They do good "Sit"s and "Down"s when there are treats. They ven do "Sit" with no treat, bu tnot "Down". And they respond to their names when called, during our practice times, because they know we have treats. But, there are a few problems...
I think "Tonks" and "Luna" must mean "treats" in dog. I can say either one, and both come running. I can't get a "Sit" command out; they come running when they hear thier names ( "treat") and then automatically put thier butts down for the treat! If I can't get the word "sit" out, how can I treat them for doing it?!? Still, we are mostly pleased with the progress. In the second week we learned the concept behind "Heel" and how to do it. The puppies however, did not seem to learn either..... Our home practice is pointless. They just have no idea what we want from them. |
We have a 3 year old yorkie, naughty girl. When she is about Summer wont do any commands at all as the yorkie jumps on her and generally totally distracts her! |
