Lulu is 2 1/2 years old and is the apple of my eye along with my Bichon mix, Dudley. Lulu is a big girl (85 lbs) and loves to play and is very gentle and loving to everyone she meets except that she likes to jump on people. We are working on that one but any suggestions are appreciated. When we are playing rather rough she will nip at me and I know she doesn't mean to hurt me but sometimes it does hurt. What can I do to teach her not to nip? Thanks and I love this site already! Lulu and Michelle |

Hi,
I'm not forgiving at all about dogs jumping up on me. I squeeze their front paws until it hurts them and tell them off. They learn pretty quick that I won't tolerate it and stop. Now they jump in circles around me lols. The nipping sometimes is stopped by a sensitive dog just by quietly saying ouch and stop playing everytime it happens. It works with some of mine and others could care less. In the cases where it doesn't work I screem ouch in a angry voice and stop playing and ignore them for hours. That seems to work. I don't have any that nip anymore. I'm sure folks may have better techniques and may not like mine but they worked. Good luck! Zach |
HI! and welcome to the forum...
This is a great place to get advice and support. In the mean time, there are many threads on this topic --- you can do a search for nipping to find them. |
Cooper also likes to jump on people. When I come home he tries to jump on me, I usally turn my back and try to ignore him till he settles down. He gets very excited/playful when someone comes around. I am working on this. He loves to run toward my sister when she comes into house. He flies thru the air and tries to body slam her in what he thinks is a playful way.
He also likes to come at you with his mouth open thinking he is playing. I won't tolerate that either. I must say "no bite" about 100 times a day. He doesn't actually bite down but he likes to make contact with his open mouth. He is 10mths old so I'm trying to get a handle on the situation so he doesn't do this in adulthood? I also look for advice all over the place? |
Zach, I heard about this technique from a coworker too. Works the same for him golden retreiver. Should work for our oes's. Thanks for sharing it. |
