We go for a re-check on Monday, and the vet previously talked about some roto-rooter procedure in the duct. It doesn't seem like he's in any discomfort, but his eye seems watery all the time which I would think is annoying. I was wondering if anyone has had this procedure done before and what it entails? |

If it is what I think it is, they will place a tiny lacrimal duct canula into the duct and flush out the duct and put meds in it. It doesnt hurt and is a quick thing pretty much. This usually solves the problem, we have done it a few times at the clinic I work at. |
Thanks for the info, glad it sounds so simple... |
Hi,
I have the strangest piece of info to share with you. Last week at the bunny shelter I noticed one of the bunnies had a blocked tear duct. The shelter is located on a feed store lot which caters to farm animals. There's an elderly volunteer who visits the shelter daily and her expertise and advice are highly respected. She tells me to go into the store and purchase something that sounded like Calf Mama. Whazzat? Calf M???..she corrects me..but it sounds like Calf Mama..tells me they resemble bunny food pellets but are more reddish in color. I go into the store and repeat what she told me although forgot the name but said it sounds like Calf Mama..they knew immediately what I meant. The bag was labled pro pellets...a milk based product for ailing calves..just a spoonfull of the pellets is needed. Not really meant for blocked tear ducts but this elderly woman with years of animal experience...swears it helps bunnies clear blocked tear ducts. Don't know why it works she claims..it just does...and damn it did!!! So I passed on that info to the others as I had purchased a bag and only used a spoonfull by adding it to the food - just the one time...started getting emails from the others who had various animals ranging from Chinchillas to Degus, bunnies that had blocked tear ducts and it did the trick! Guess it wouldn't hurt to try? Got Sheep would probably know the correct name for this stuff. Marianne |
Interesting.
You were close - Calf Manna (i think the spelling is right) |
Wow, that's very strange. I wonder if I can find it anywhere near me. We live in a suburban area of Philly so I wonder if it will be hard to find. |
Thanks Got Sheep! I figured being the very smart person you are you'd know the answer! Calf Manna!! that's it!
Verve Up, I would send you some but not sure if it's allowed ..I can check with the post office. Marianne |

Hmmm, wonder how the various formulas vary and which would be best for doggies? Is it the anise, linseed, proteins, carbohydrates........curious. |
Surprisingly, there are a few horse & tackle shops within a half hour from me.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to try one dose. I wonder what why this would help, especially if there was something lodged in it? Thanks for the info! |
deb
We have cows all around us!! If you can't find it near you I will look and send it to you!!!! Cindy |
Calf Manna is generally available at feed stores. We feed it to our nursing does (female rabbits). It really helps them with milk production...hey, another gland! |
