The first being her rediculus hair do. She looks like either a Beatle or a Fraggle Rock character. This problem I can fix with a little trimming. Why they left her with the mysterious one eyed look I'm not sure. (please do not take any note of the trash bag she decided to sit next to to have her picture taken with) The thing that actually concerns me is the new black coat she has coming in. Last time we shaved her she was completely gray. She had a cut this summer near her back end that I knew was growing back black, but the rest of it came as a complete shock. I've read on here that skin trauma is what causes this, so I'm wondering what has been going on with her skin. The only thing I can think of is that this summer we had ticks. Do you think they could have injured her this badly? We took her for a flea and tick dip when she got her last cut. Could that have burned her skin? Is it an age thing? She's only 3. Any ideas? |

Hi; my sheepie had that happen also.I had problen with ticks and fleas but did not have her dipped.Never seen her scratch so I can't tell what the cause can be |
Actually I think that Scruffy looks kind of cute in a demure, continental way. I'm sure my 3 year old Charlie would find her so.
As for the dark patches, you already know a temporary color change can follow an injury or skin irritation. It grows out as long as the underlying cause has disappeared. I have used an emollient spray I got from my vet for Charlie's behind that had a nice scent, wasn't greasy and seemed to prevent any further dermatitis. Made the hair grow in lush and full. I was tempted to try it myself, on my balding head, until my wife told me that I might come out looking like Charlie's behind. |
