nibbling issue

My sheepie is only 2 months old, as I understand that they have teething period where they need something to chew on (my mom's 2 dogs been through that stage while I still live with her), but my main concern is that he would follow my feet and suddenly jumps in front of me and start nibbling my shoe. I don't have any issue that he nibs stuff, but my major concerns are 1) my shoes aren't clean and they aren't in-door sneakers, 2) I don't want to accidently kick him while he is playing catch with my shoe. Anyways I can stop this behavior?

Just enforce with the pup that you do not want him doing this type of play. Get one of his toys and get his attention so he forgets about your shoe. Be consistent with this also tell him "NO" when he starts to chew on the shoe. Show him the shoe is a NO and the toy is YES. It's a fair trade. He is only 2 months so be consistent with training and he will come around start training NOW.
I did that to distract him, but he would wondering off with his new toy for a brief minute or two, and came right back. Maybe is the fact that he needs something different?
our pup likes a nibble to try teller her no and distracting her attention from thenibbleing but she just comes back from more its like it wont stick in her head nibbling is bad should we take it as part of her playing as its not real aggressive nibbling or really put a stop to it now
I use a spray you can get from pet shops that deters them nibbling. When I used to sweep the kitchen floor I sprayed it on the brush so Summer wouldn't attack it. My hubby didn't know I did this and couldn't understand why Summer attacked the brush when he used it! I did tell him eventually!

i dun mind he plays, but he does have some shart teeth! Worst thing yet... he got a hold of my basketball shorts and hangs on.... is not the $ thing since the pair is only 4.99 when i bought it, but the fact that i wear it loose and he may pants me in the public.... that would be embrassing....
This is puppy nibbling now but if you don't stop it, it can get bad. Walk into him when he is biting your shoes. You don't break his leg but it will not feel good. They are pretty smart. ;)

When you give him a toy, the reason he comes back to you is because you are more fun. You give attention, you tell him "No", you play with him. He doesn't see it as a discipline, he sees it as attention/fun/play.

They see things in black and white. It's either good or bad, safe or dangerous.

You can also try to clap when he starts to nibble on your shoes/shorts and as soon as he stops for a second, praise him lavishly.

He needs to learn that chewing on your shoes/cloths is not pleasant.
i do the clapping now it puts them off for a second i missed the big praise bit after though so thats probably why she has not seen not nibbling as a bad thing yet cheers for that
You have to remember that puppies are like human babies, they explore the world with their mouths. Puppies love to play too. Having said that, you do want to discourage the biting of you and your possetions....and please no depanting in public. hahaha. I used to always carry with me a nylo bone, so as soon as she would jump and bite I would say "no bite" and then give the bone to her. It is repetitive, so you must do this EVERY time. I know it can be a pain in the neck, but you will be grateful you did it. Some people put coins or marbles in a can and everytime the dog jumps on them or nips or barks, they skake the can and give a command. I know my sister taught her Lab, Black Jack that way.

To save yourself ALOT of money, put shoes, purses, jackets, cell (mobile)phones, TV remote controls away in cupboards or drawers. That way the dog will never get a hold of them. You will be amazed at what they will eat. It will save you from losing your things and a possible Vet bill.

Anyway, good luck with your sheepie. Remember it takes patients. 8)
thanks lucky for us she doesnt chew and stuff really just likes to nibble us think she just gets over excited playing and doesnt know how sharp her little razor teeth are
possessions wise is not an issue because both my finace and I have decided to place him and my yorkie into the garage (my fiance and I will dress it up and made them feel like home) so that he doesn't ran into anything dangerous.... but we have to start do the no nibbling training because mipanda is scaring the living S*IT outta my yorkie.... so... still have to work on that.... thanks for all the information
