As I reflect back, it's hard to believe all that has happened in a years time! I think at first we were running on nervous energy. The lifting, the meds, trying to get him to eat... we were in a daze. When I look at him now, lying here at my feet- I am so thankful that we made the decision to give him a fighting chance. And- fight he did. Through all of our fumbles, he stayed strong and on track. While I never want him hurt or sick, this experince has brought us closer to Max. His gentle, patient nature has shown through- and he has trusted us to do what was right ( or what we HOPED was right) all along. Finding our ole country Doc was a blessing, and of course finding the forum was a God's send. Val and Chummie had been down the road a while before us-- and the support and suggestions were monumental in Max's recovery. Right now- we have a puppy that has a limp, who has a bit of a struggle getting up at times, and who pees on a whim... like a firehose. The limp doesn't matter -- he is able to run, jump and play, and doesn't seem in pain. We use rugs and paw wax to help when he gets up. We don't mind at all. We keep him in diaper bands and depends so he and the floor stay dry. Sometimes he pees on our feet - or on visitors that are outside. We don't mind at all. He gives us kisses, kisses and more kisses, and unconditional love. And we don't mind at all. |

Yay Max!!! Yay Lori!! You've come so far together. Your perseverence is inspiring. I sometimes find it hard to believe that my bouncy cheerful Chum is the same dog who could not get up and/or walk at various points over the past two years. Their happiness is so rewarding. |
It takes exceptional uprights to accept a handicapped dog....Max has a handicap but you don't see it, you love him and put up with his little difficulties. In return he give you his full devotion.....I'd say both sides are very special People and Pawple. |

Isn't it amazing! I can hardly believe Max and Chummie are the same dogs we posted about last spring. The first time I saw pictures of Chum after her surgery <<<shudder>>>>> was tramatic. Now she is up and bouncing around--- and Max is getting to be his old self again. |
Yay Max is right! I say celebrate with some cheese! |
Hugs Maxie boy, you have come a long way with your wonderful family.
|
Maxie, you are a miracle. And Lori, you are a miracle worker for giving your very special pup a chance, and nursing him through the tough stuff.
I think that deserves a ...or two Laurie and Oscar |
I think Maxie is one special dog, and his mom and dad - extra special for doing so much to help him and loving him as much as they do. He is one lucky sheepie. |
