We have just made some new friends in the area on the account of the fact that they just got a new OES puppy - ADORABLE! One blue eye, one brown, absolutely gorgeous. They have come over for coffee a few times and I suggested to them that they joined this forum, but since they haven't yet I would like to ask this question on their behalf (I was bragging about how helpful everyone here is, so don't let me down now! ) They are trying to trying puppy to ring a bell to go out just like Tucker does. They were completely gung ho and were all set and trying it out, until their baby decided that she, too, would like to join in on the bell ringing fun. This makes for mass confusion, since they obviously cannot open the door everything SHE rings the bell, so the association will not be strengthened for the dog. Does anyone have any suggestions of a similar but alternate method of doing this so that the dog can communicate his desire to go outside but the baby cannot interfere?? Thanks - I will pass the information along. As they are really overwhelmed with training a 13 week old puppy and raising a 9 month old baby, I'm sure they will appreciate any advice!! |

doggie door |
Yard is not fully fenced/secure enough to have such a young puppy coming and going as he pleases...thanks for the suggestion, though! |
Put bell in a location baby does not go into another room. Example ( hang bell on crate inside) |
Ahhh...smart. I will suggest this! |
They can always put the baby up for adoption. |
I'll suggest that also. Not sure that it will fly though |
