Perhaps you can put some boots on him during your walks until his pads are healed. Poor baby. |
Poor Garfunkel!
Mushers Secret is what you are thinking of. Here is a link to a website that carries it. No one local to me carries it, but you may find it. http://www.handsnpaws.com/product/FXGES ... ction.html There are also several spray on products to protect pads. I just bought a new one, 3M Pet Care Liquid Bandage. I imagine it is real similar to the human stuff. It is alcohol free, so it won't sting in open areas. Also, my friends Linda and Donaven that we mush with recommends tea tree oil mixed with olive oil. 2 parts olive oil, 1 part tea tree oil. Both are antibacterial, the tt oil is also anti fungal and anti viral. You can now buy tt oil at Walmart, in the vitamin section. Donaven applies it every couple days, and appies it with a q-tip.You may want/need to put a cloth bootie on his foot to keep him from licking it off. Another good thing is emu oil. I have that and I love it. Calendula is good too - but stings. It comes mixed with glycerin - and then doesn't sting. Calendula promotes tissue growth - aids in developing granular tissue. After it heals, a product that works well is Pad Guard. Made by Animal Trophy Health Care. It has benzoin, aloe and other good stuff. It also is in an iso-alcohol base, so it will sting if there are open areas. We use this every time on Chewie and Gabby before they go out carting or mushing to protect their pads. Hope this helps!! (Sorry it is such a book!) |
Careful with the tea tree oil. It can STING if put on an open would... |
