My male does this all the time - nothing to do with a crate. He has no skin irritation whatsoever, it's just his habit to do so. He looks like he has muddy knees always. |
The drooling may be caused by separation anxiety. Panda arrived with this behavior and would drool terribly when left alone... but she would also howl, potty in her crate or the house and become destructive. The foot licking might simply be a result of the anxiety. Here are some links that might help...
http://www.humanesocietytampa.org/behav ... nxiety.pdf http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A=1502 Truman doesn't lick his feet any other time... only when he's in his crate and you're away? If he licks other times too, you might consider ruling out yeast as a possible cause. The licking can cause yeast to take hold which can look like this... but it seems to be more confined to between the pads, between the toes and around the nails when it's on the feet. http://oesusa.com/DarbysFeetCompared.jpg http://oesusa.com/PandasFeetComparison.jpg Best wishes to Truman! |
Does Truman have something to chew on, a hard rubber toy or nyla bone, in his crate? I wouldn't leave a rawhide bone when he's unattended but something like a kong might give him something to focus on. |
