How cute! |

was anyone able to find out the dog's name (that played the sheepy?) I tried a web search and couldn't find it. I was surprised he wasn't listed in the credits. |
I didn't watch the whole thing, so I don't know. Did you check IMDB.com? |
I checked and found nothing. Thats odd. |
After I posted, I checked too. The give the name of the animal handler, but not the star!!!! Where's the union when you need it! |

How cute! Easy on the "real" sheepdog thing!!!!! |
Aw...I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. I should have said, he was like Pirate and not clean, well groomed sheepdog! |
I believe someone posted it on the forum before.
I think his name was Sam and he was defintely a rescue from a pound. |
I was at work, and a couple patients had it on in their rooms. I was lurking in the hall.......
I wish I would have remembered to set the DVR before I left home. |
I watched the original and stayed tuned for the Shaggy DA. Figured it was appropriate viewing while I groomed the pups. Miss Ellie was fascinated with the Sheepie in the original. It's the first time I've seen her watch TV. |
Yup, his name was Sam and he was a pound dog

Will the real Sam please stand up...Lillibrad Sammy's Shadow...voted top movie animal star of 1959...his parents were:Sire- Ch Norval Pride King and Dam-Ch Lillibrad Lindy Lou, CDX. By the way, Sammy's brother was Ch Lillibrad Prince Charming. I read the oddest things sometimes. I don't think he ever saw the pound. If you have "The Complete Old English Sheepdog" by John Mandeville you can see several pictures of him and his parents...there's even a picture of him with Roy Disney and Bill Koehler his trainer after the award. |

Thanks I thought the rescue story might be a little too contrived. |
Ch Norval Pride King is in my dogs pedigrees |

I just happened upon this conversation because I was reminiscing about my step grandmother, Lillian Lovejoy. I loved visiting her house in Denver as a little girl. She was an interesting woman, and one of the many things she put her energy into was raising Old English sheepdogs. She had a portrait of one of her dogs over the mantle of her fireplace. His name was King, and she talked about meeting Fred MacMurray during the filming of the original Shaggy Dog movie. She had pictures of Fred, King, and her. Her dogs had the Lillibrad name because it was a combination of her first name with my sweet grandfather's name-Bradbury. |
