Nibble, nibble

Ok...here's an odd question :?

Eggbert does this weird thing with his front teeth...nibblenibblenibble, on my clothes, Abby's ears, or the quilts and blankets on our bed. If he does accidentally hit skin, it doesnt hurt...more of a tickle  !

Does anyone else's dog do this? What does it mean? He mostly seems to do it when he's perhaps a bit frustrated..."Mom! lets get up!" Abby! Play with me!"

Its kinda cute, but Im wondering if its something I should discourage, or at least not give in to...(nibblenibblenibble..."Ok, ok we'll get up now!" )

Buff and Ellie will nibble on each other when they play. I'm clueless on what it means, just figured it was a term of endearment. :?
Blue does this all the time, more with my father in law.
We say they're just cleaning the nits off of us--which actually is gross. We've always taken it as affectionate grooming. Merlin did this a lot, paying special attention to ears. Archie does this more than either Sophie or Sherman, who do it to each other--or rather Sherman does it to Sophie to appease his smaller but much more cranky sister. It truly does calm her down. Sometimes Archie accidentally hurts and he looks both startled and deeply remorseful at the loud OUCH!!
Roxy used to do this too. We called it "Pincher Biting". She would do it when she got really excited. She would start out with that funny smile of hers...then she just couln't help herself and she would turn that smile into the pincher biting. Once in a while....she would get a little too carried away and accidentally nip the skin....OUCH!! The other 99.9% of the time....it just tickled.
Sometimes my girls bite me ...what I call....."getting my fleas off" little teenie tiny bites...
If they get the right place it SMARTS!!! They usually do this when they are after my affections at the same time. I do not love it. At all. I am working on this as we speak. Advice of couse is welcome...
Funny! Everyone seems to have a name for this behavior (pincer biting, getting the fleas/nits) We call it the "corn-on-the-cob" nibble!
Pepsi and Rags do it to each other. I think it's so funny.
Except when they get me. Rags has very sharp teeth.
We call it "little nibbles" and Walter does it all the time when he gets in trouble for biting. We say "NO BITES!" and he goes right to nibbles, as if we wouldn't be able to tell that he is still biting
Yup, we call 'em the rat bites. I theorize that Clyde's rat biting helped Bear's cording process quite a bit, actually. It helped gum up his coat and he munched some of it right into some nice sized cords!
Neither of my dogs have done this!
Yes, Harry does it too. We think he means it affectionately BUT it HURTS because like everything else Harry does he is NOT GENTLE. We have curbed it quite a bit but he still does it every once in a while. We call them Pinchy Bites.

But I am glad you brought this topic up so that I know it would be normal if my dog wasn't such a clod.
that is derby to a tee i know he is ready to play when he starts look out!!
yup, panda does it too!! we just say nibble, nibble....and she does it after we say no bite too!!

and yes, it can hurt!
Murphy does it too.
Barney has occasionally done it. And he's usually very gently until the last one, where it gets a little too sharp!
Oh, you mean the little love bites?

Some of my guys do it. I've asked them not to since not every one appreciates it, so they rarely do anymore, but, personally. I think it's kind of cute...

Yes I guess that is what Harry would call it too.

It kind of gives new meaning to the idea that Love Hurts!

You are very unlucky Ron, I have only had one OES who didn't do this at some time or another, I just think it some way they are trying to show their affection. Our bitch has the habit of constantly licking you in slow motion and during the process will leave her tongue sticking to your skin for a few seconds. There are all personalities in one way or another.

Happy New Year :go: from all at Tikki-ti-boo to all our new found friends in this forum.
We call them love bites - and I remember all my sheepies have done it
Both of my boys do it every now and then.
Yes the little nibbles. Obe does it when he wants attention. I usually laugh except for the once in a blue moon where he does get skin. Just assumed it was a sheepie trait. From reading this post I think it was a correct in my assumption. With the one exception Ron, sorry. I don't have a name for those nibbles yet; and only had a few sips of java so must wait for the creative side to wake up.
Yep, I tell George I don't have fleas, so he can stop. He will do it to me, my son, my husband, my dad, my mom, just about everyone he likes. But geez does it hurt when he accidently gets some skin!!
Yup, we call them flea bites :D Also, Chauncey has always liked to mouth my knuckle on my index finger. Never a bite, just a gentle knaw than a few licks followed by more knawling. It doesn't hurt, it fact he seems soothed by it and he usually does it during our snuggle time.........Kathy
