Even if he has just been out. if Corky growls or looks at Fergus through the gate Fergus Pees. He also pees when I put the leash on him. What's going on???? I have had him medically checked & he is fine. HELP! This is recent behavior. |

Sue if there is no medical problems like UTI's etc, did the vet check also for say an age Incontinence and rule that out as well?
If not medical then here is a link on Submissive peeing, there might be something there that might help re-direct the behaviour that is happening at the moment. http://www.perfectpaws.com/subr.html You could also try some "Bach Flower" essences on him to help as well, go to a health food shop and they mix specific blends for different problems in behaviour. They might help take the edge of him a bit while working on the peeing problem. |
The vet ruled out any medical reasons for the peeing.
The Submissive peeing article is right on. I feel so badly for Fergus. He is so nervous & afraid of Corky. They are never together, but Fergus pees when Corky growls from another room. |

Maybe it is time to pop both of them on a lead with you taking fergus and someone else in the family handling corky and start working them together outside with treats, just simple commands and basic obedience in the yard together on a leash with each of them. Then if all is going well progress to off lead commands and treats with both dogs. You have to get fergus past this and train/work both dogs together, Corky has to learn not to be so snarly and dominant towards Fergus and Fergus has to learn that Corky is not a threat. Make the activities with them both under full control on the leads a fun and busy experience. Have plenty of their favourite treats handy and start using words like sit, stay, down etc and have them busy thinking about those commands and the treat that follows after they sit etc for you and hopefully fergus will build up some confidence and corky will not be so dominant with fergus and more accepting of his pressence around him. It will be a long road but one that is quite achievable, so go back to basics with both of them out in the yard with training under leash control. Also later start getting them to lay in the same room, under surpervisions and if needed both on leads and loaded up with treats, use the commands like sit, drop etc and get them use to being in the same space. Of course never leave them unsupervised alone together till both learn to accept each other in the same space It is something that you need to do with both dogs as you really can't help one without the other one being involved as well. Both will end up helping each other by training them together, firstly corky being more accepting of fergus in his space and Fergus fear subsiding when it comes to corky Do try the Bach Flower essences as well there is so many blends that help, I would even be having one mixed up for corky as well while trying to resolve this between the two of them. Best wishes sue and I hope the submissive peeing stops and all can be happy together in each others company. It will happen, just give it time and work on it with both of them. |
