It must have been some special karma going on that for 17 odd years or perhaps even longer, people in the household would throw their pennies, dimes, nickles, loonies and toonies into jars, tins or other containers. Remember we Canadians don't have 1 and 2 dollar bills but we have loonies and toonies which can add up. I would occasionally come across a jar full of coins when cleaning cupboards and think maybe some day I'll find the time to roll them and take them to the bank but I never did. It must have been pure chance that I saw the assorted coin roll thingies in a loonie store one time and purchased them. They of course cost a loonie ($1) for the package. So I spent the evenings rolling the money and felt a bit like Scrooge getting excited as the money total became rather quite large. In the meantime, Petunia needed her spay and her other surgery and Mickey needed to go to the vet. Blue needed his Medacam and the bill was going to be a bit of a hardship just before Christmas. Back to the money...I finally totalled it all and was amazed...the pennies, nickles, dimes, quaters, loonies and toonies totalled up to 585 dollars!!!! I hadn't even realized it would be that amount! I placed the rolled money in a case and took them to the bank..building up extra huge muscles in the process as it was heavy! I take the three furkids to the vets and the bill comes to....583 dollars!!! I have change left over! Just goes to show you ...I guess saving up pennies for a rainy day does work after all! Woohoo - you were $2 to the good!
I save spare change too, but it always gets cashed in before it is that nice of a collection. |
We are the same now too, we don't have the Dollar and two Dollar notes anymore, now coins.
Amazing miracles do happen around christmas time, wonderful how the pennys add up. WOO HOO change as well, now you need to go to the $2 store and get yourself a treat. |
That's awesome!! |

I love to toss change into a coffee can! My granddaughter, Haley and I save our change all year. Last year, the week before school was out (she was in kindergarten) we counted and wrap all the change. On the last day of school, I took the day off, since she had half day, and we went to the mall. She picked out a book to read for the summer, and a toy for her brother and sister, we lunched at a grown up restaurant and had a ball!!! We started to toss change again the next day for 08 1st grade graduation. I am hoping that her memories of me will be as warm and happy as my memories of my grandmother are some day!!!!! |
That's awesome, but check this guy out: http://www.wishtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=7547553

Yeah! |
Well, you could take the $2 (really $1 after the cost of the rollers) and go to Tim Horton's or Dunkin Donuts and treat yourself,
OR.... You could take the two dollars like George Bailey did* and put them in the vault and tell them to have lots of little babies. *Not so obscure reference to "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart. |

I've gone to Tim Horton's while on business trips in the Stratford area. Their donuts are amazing! They blow Krispy Kreme out of the water. |
Marianne what thrill to find your change and to have it go to a good cause.
