New Year's Eve Plans?

Anyone have anything exciting they're doing for New Year's Eve?

Where will you be?
Any good stories about previous years?
Drink of choice?
Have someone to kiss at midnight? ;)

So far, I'm PRETTY sure we'll be asleep before midnight even if we go over to a friends. If I wasn't 35 wks preggers, my drink of choice would be an appletini. Mmmm... I'm going crazy thinking about it. It will probably be an evening of board games, but that's exciting to us.

During the day, we may be sheepherding. Finding out now what the schedule is for that.

I used to love eggnog, but now I can only take 1 sip. Anything more and I'd get sick from taste and how sweet.

...and of course I'll have a special man to kiss. Two if one is being naughty and wakes up. Three if I keep dreaming and someone makes an early appearance [which I doubt].

This year we'll probably just be hunkering down with mildly freaked out dogs, and and hoping the neighbors dont set off too many fireworks  .

Best past year story...we used to host a huge New Years Eve party for our friends every year. The deal was...if you planed to drink at ALL, bring a sleeping bag, and we would provide breakfast the next day.

For the 1999-2000 celebration, Scott decided to pull out all the stops and cook an amazing meal for everyone, complete with rented china and silver, several courses, etc...

Well, not only did EVERYONE (about 20 people) elect to stay the night, but we had lingerers still hanging out munching on leftovers 2 days later! 8O
I'll be skiing with my family & husband! :D It will be his first time, so it will be a memorable trip. We might be too exhausted to stay up until midnight on New Year's... but either way I'll give him a big kiss!

PS- Friends and boardgames sounds fun to me too! And a Southern Comfort & Coke wouldn't hurt... My friend was so deprived during her pregnancy (from drinking, lol) that as a joke she got a basket of liquor in the hospital when she gave birth.
I will probably be at home watching the Biggest Loser Couples Debut!!!
We usually don't venture too far from home but this year we'll be going to a friend's party in Philadelphia. They live a couple of blocks from the Delaware River where they will be shooting off a great fireworks display.
We don't go out on New Years.

I think of it as "amateur night" when everyone tries to cram into one night what I do all year long...LOL

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!
:D I will be curled up with Willoughby, Edwina and Percival trying not to worry about a job interview on the 2nd, which as luck would have it is my birthday. I have to fly north and return the same day. 8O We'll probably watch a movie or two: (rented, I would think!)

The best New Years' ever was in Manchester, England, spent with my cousins and their friends. wonderful food, dancing and at mid-night, Auld Lang Syne. My cousin's husband had very black hair (now white) and he was much in demand for "first footing" the next day! 8)

(I believe it's a Scottish custom: for good luck if a dark haired man crossed your threshhold on New Year's Day. ) Has anyone heard of this custom?
For New Years Eve, Dino and I have been going out to the casino with my bosses for the past 10 years...It's a tradition!!!

We have a very nice dinner at one of the restaurants, gamble until midnight, have champagne and greet the New Year with kisses hugs and laughter!!! I will be drinking, the ole' standby, MY COSMO!!! Dino won't drink, so I have my designated driver.

On New Years Day, the adult kids, KIL, and grandbabies along with the furkids will have a wonderful dinner of Ravioli with homemade sauce and ham..Dino is a great cook    BUT I set a great table!!!! After dinner we will talk, play games and have a wonderful dessert my DIL will make...........YUMMMMMMM!!!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE OES MEMBERS FROM ALL OF US!!!!!!
We have declined all invites because we want NO plans. Just want to relax. I will be kissing John and Max, my favorite guys at midnight. Well-- one licks and one kisses. I'll let you guess which is which.

Drink of choice- Tom Collins dry- straight up with a twist. :D :D
I will be sitting on the couch watching movies in Air Conditioning New Years eve, 38c that day and news years day 37c 8O

Hubby and boys are heading up to the Farm, No aircon there so the girls and I will be vegging out in the cool here. :P

Oh and of course a good bottle of red wine will help bring in the New Year as well. 8) :D
oooooooooooooo i wish i was closer Val!!!

Sigh I used to go to exciting New Year Eve's parties but life changed after PCITML...(Panda came into my life :D )

Panda went into frenzy at the sound of fireworks and they are very popular here at New Years..so I started staying home with him. Now he's not bad and has improved a great deal over the years - no more throwing up and frantic pacing at the sound!

I think he may have developed that fear growing up on the rooftop of an apartment building in Hong Kong. I always think that being way up there in a place where fireworks are also very common must have been awful for him.

Anyhow going off topic ...me I'm going to snuggle under a warm fuzzy blanket with the fireplace going, a Monte Cristo coffee in my hand, and covered by even warmer fuzzy furbodies. Ahhhh I can't think of anything more enjoyable!

Marianne
Another Finch party for New Year's. Last year we drove in a snow storm to get to the host brothers house. Thankfully we took Todd's big Dodge Ram 4x4 PU. We got to pull a few less fortunate partiers out of the ditch. I am really hoping for better winter weather this year.

The worst one was a year I was pregnant, and we got a flat tire on the way home. Very bitterly cold night. I was the flashlight holder (sober) and Todd was the tire changer (not so sober). It was a memorable night. I think I learned a bunch of new words that night too.......

I think I will work on the Mojitos I never finished in Michigan at Nationals. Hate to see it go to waste!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND HOPE FOR A GREAT NEW JOB IN THE NEW YEAR!
We always stay in New Years, everything is so expensive- they put all the prices up for just one night. We will have a few drinks at home & watch a film, probably crawling into bed about 15 mins after midnight as we are both working New Years day. I have Greg & Rufus to kiss
Drink of choice? Hmm.. probably Captain Morgans & coke (just an excuse to play pirates lol)
 :cheer: :yay: HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE :cheer:  :yay:

Dutch and I will be curled up with a good book
I'm so excited about New Year's Eve this year. :excited: I can't wait to wear the outfit I bought. Y'all have got to see my sexy new shoes.

We're going out dining & dancing, but we haven't decided where yet. We've narrowed it down to two, we just have to decide which of those is better. The ticket price of one comes with a room in the hotel wher the party is held, so we don't have to drive home. I think I'm voting for that one. 8)

Favorite past NYE was spent at Pleasure Island in Disney World. What a rockin party that was!! So many people were pressed together I literally could not move and could barely breathe at midnight. 8O

Seriously...y'all have to got see the cute dress I got on sale at Chicos to wear Monday night. :yay: Can you tell I'm excited?
We usually go for a really nice dinner early...around 5, come home, watch tv and fall asleep. Boring, huh?

But this year, I think we'll have dinner home. Tony is off Monday (I'm working) and I hope he will make dinner. He's an excellent cook, when he gets around to it.

New Year's day, I'm making a turkey and having a few neighbors drop by. I'll set up a buffet, and it will be a lazy, eatin' day!

Happy, healthy and prosperous new year to my OES forum family!!!
What is your traditional New Year's Day meal?

We eat pork (usually fried fatback), greens, blackeyed peas and cornbread, all of which is supposed to make us healthy & prosperous in the new year. I'm seriously wondering about how that fried fatback is going to make us healthy, but hey - this is the south.
I don't think we have plans. Which is fine with me b/c who wants to be out driving with all the crazies!

My best New Year's was 1999. Our friends were having a party at their house and of COURSE that song was playing like every five minutes. At least now that I'm old it helps me remember what year the party was! So that's the night that hubby and I first kissed...awwwwww--And it was one of those parties that was just awesome. Like everything came together and the mix of people and the mood and everything was perfect. The same people had a party the next New Year's and it wasn't nearly as awesome. still fun, but not as crazy.
i will be staying home alone...brian works....watching tv, wishing a glass of wine would taste good and going to bed early with panda and snuggling down.....

We always have pork roast - mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. My Grandma, who has not been well, but who is doing better, is having the whole family for New Years day. She is amazing, and, we are so thankful that she is getting stronger each day. What a way to start 2008-- with Grandma and the whole Clippinger clan!

Picture of cute new shoes please!!!! Geez, I can't believe I even had to ask. Of course, a picture of you in the whole new outfit would be good too

We spend NYE with a group of friends. No one wants to be on the road too late at night - too dangerous - so we watch the ball drop in New York at 10pm our time, then we all go home!
Brushing the dogs after my husband goes to bed early.

Of course!! :D The second pair from the left in black. http://www.antoniomelani.com/sandals.shtml

I :hearts: them.
Those are gorgeous!!!!!!!! By any chance...size 8????
Nope - sorry, Deb, they're a size 9. Otherwise, I'd gladly loan them to you.
Cute shoes. Where is the dress picture?
I guess I'll have to wait until I put it on to take a picture because it's not on the Chico's website. They were having a great sale last week and even their "nicer" things that usually aren't marked down were on sale. So, I got this dress that was originally $158 for $40. I was a happy shopper. :D Especially considering the others I'd tried on ranged any where from $150 - $1500. 8O

The $1500 dress I tried on was because I was in Nordstoms and didn't bother to look at the price tag. It was a lovely St John's dress, though. Just a bit out of my budget.
sassy, sassy, sassy!!!

Trying to rub in the fact you need air conditioning and most of the rest of us will bundled up, looking like marshmellows?
Hmmmmmm marshmallow....

Plenty of food, seafood, and lots of wine coolers. Staying in where its safer and we can be with the girls. Happy New Year Everyone.
Always BBQ and seafood, yum lobster, prawns, scallops etc etc. with a good glass of Vino or beer

Have a great New Years eve all, Tammy can't wait to see a photo of your sexy new outfit. Have a great time out dancing and romancing the old year out and the new year in.

We have 36c here today and by New Years Eve, amended Temp. 42c crikeys it is going to be a hot start to the new year. 8O

Just hope no idiots lighting fires and the state stays bush fire free for the New Year celebrations.
You are going to make us wait THAT long Tammy??? Cruel- just cruel.

Shoes are sexy and sassy!
Love those shoes :clappurple: :clappurple:
We're going to a friend's house for fondue! I'm not a fan of the whole thing except...I LOVE MELTED CHOCOLATE!
Our meal will be bourbon pecan chicken because I look for any excuse to make it ...then hashbrown casserole, strawberry salad, homemade biscuits, and an avocado mango salsa for dipping tortilla chips when we have appetizers.

Whooo hoooo I completely forgot I had been invited to a House Party on the 31st and my fuzzy brain realized..um..the 31st..oh sheesh that is a New Year's Eve Party! LOL

I told the hostess I'll go but am leaving long before midnight so I can be with my Panda boy before midnight. Sigh and I thought I was going to live vicariously through Beau's mom.

Happy New Years Everyone!

Me too, I'll be home, watching TV with Bunkie and wishing for that glass of red wine or a crown and coke.

Never again will I be preggers over Christmas.
Going sightseeing today in DC with a friend. Then not quite sure what we may do tonight. Either way it will be a good time.

Best new years????? ummm forgot!!!!!!!!!! 99/00 celebrated new years in a club which had all the time zones on three huge screens, needless to say it was a rather long night
Working this morning, the chiropracter this afternoon, then to the barn. A few friends and I are going out to dinner around 5--nothing fancy, probably Applebee's. Then home to watch Project Runway, the latest Harry Potter, season 3 of The Office, or Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Or read. Up New Year's Day early to feed the horses so the barn manager can have the day off.

I've never celebrated New Year's in a big way. I feel about New Year's Eve the way Ginny (Tasker's Mom) feels about Christmas. BLECH.

Sigh...me too! I had a sip of my dad's red wine on Christmas. It tasted GOOD! I guess I'm not one of those preggos who hate the taste of alcohol while pg. Oh well...only a few more months!

Do you know what you're having yet? 8) :D

Oh, and Tammy, LOVE the shoes!
I always stay at home and it's nice with my son Max and Charlie! We still have a light on for Ellie in memory when the year passes!

We got something to eat, german pasta salad (mmh) and some dips and bavarian beer which I got since september!!!  and I wait to open it!!

Otherwise we just sit in front of the tv and watch mainly german tv, cause they have more "parties" on and also had a chat on the phone today with family and friends everywhere!

So let the good new year 2008 come!!! ....
I suck at internation time. Its now 11:39 am in Chicago.

Is it 2008 anywhere yet?
Australia
Where: probably in bed by 10pm after a smidgen of scotch; and if Barney or Maggie try to kiss me at midnight they'll probably wish they didn't. They's probably both be hunkered down in the bath room until the fireworks are over.

Most memorable New Years' were back in the 70's. Then every year we would visit an elder couple, farmers, who lived in a 2 room log cabin on a 40 acre farm. No indoor plumbing, wood stove for heat, carried their water from a nearby springhouse. We would play pinocle until midnight, then snack on home made pie (made in the wood stove oven).

Hope every one has a safe New Year's eve, and a New year filled with many blessings and golden opportunities.
:D Happy New Year, all!
Pizza, a pay per view movie and early to bed. I'll most likely start taking down the Christmas tree tonight as well. Yesterday I bought a bunch of rubbermaid storage containers so I can be VERY organized this year!!!!
Nothing tonight followed by the traditional New Year's Day Brunch with friends. woo hoo.

Followed by standing in the parking lot of the restaurant trying to decide what to do. Everyone getting frustrated with that, then after an hour everyone finally going shopping as usual. woo hoo.
I had no plans until today. My sister decided she wanted to come over to celebrate.
Oh what fun!
I worked last night , then slept for 3 1/2 hrs. I got up, because Chewie and Gabby were going mushing!! Our 1st time out in the snow with a real sled. :D

It was a blast, pictures are coming. It was also Gabby's "parent's "anniversary today.

Todd is out ice fishing, then we go to his brothers for a party tonight. :D
