Have you seen any good movies this holiday?

We are big movie nuts. Last night all four of us saw Sweeney Todd - it was very good although bloody. Today the boys and I saw Juno while we were out running around - we loved it. It is very quirky and may not be for everyone.

We are planning on seeing Mr. Wilson's War sometime this weekend.

I would like to see Sweeny Todd, I love Johnny Depp, but I'm not real big on blood and gore!
I fall back on the Christmas Classics. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Miracle on 34th Street, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph, etc.......
I'm dying to see Juno. It looks so good and I love Michael Cena. I always love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp so I'm looking forward to seeing Sweeney Todd as well. Unfortunately, due to our intense hatred of teenagers, cell phones and teenagers with cell phones, we seldom go to the movies anymore so it looks like we'll be waiting for them to come out on DVD, which is fine because we have tons of movies to catch up on first. We've been buying all kinds of new stuff on Blu-Ray now and I got James a bunch more for Christmas so we'll be working on those for awhile!

We try to pick a movie theater that is practically going out of business so we have fewer annoying people to deal with. Today was great because there was just a handful of people in this movie.

We also have a movie theater that shows a lot of indie and foreign flicks so there are NEVER teens there. It is Tim's and Brian's favorite movie theater. Juno is playing at that theater as well but we had to be out in time for Brian's dental appointment so we went to the mall. It just happened to work out in our favor.

Jill, I think you would really like Juno so you should try to get out to see it.
whats funny about annoying teenagers at the movies is..... my daughter at 15... turning around and barking at other girls yaking through a movie and I quote "I have to drive 2 hours to watch a movie and pay these prices, I would like you all to shut the #$@& up or you will be wearing my $5:00 pop." Then she turned to these young boys who were complaing about the movie being boring and told them to leave if they did not like and get there money back. (They did) Other people clapped, she bowed, we all enjoyed our movie..... she does not take after me.
There is (or used to be) a movie theater here for over 21 only. They serve alcohol, so that's why they can have and enforce that age requirement. It used to cost almost twice the normal price so an $8 movie was $15. We haven't been there in a long long time, just because they closed for a while and when they reopened, they weren't showing the movies we want to see anymore.

I just looked them up... they are now run by AMC theaters. Tix are now $18, while at the regular attached cinema they are $10. If I recall, it's free popcorn and soft drinks, so the price isn't quite as bad as it seems at first blush. The seats are similar to airline first-class seats, too.

Joan and I ate dinner there once under previous management. Eat elsewhere. ;)

Although ... hmmmm... Joan has said she wants to go see National Treasures (even though the reviews I've seen were pans).... maybe I'll take here there tomorrow night.

Now (12/26/2007) playing: National Treasure: Book of Secrets
Rated (PG) • 2 hrs. 4 min.
12:45pm, 4:00pm, 7:30pm

I think the last show we saw there was "Pay It Forward", so that would be... gasp.... 2000. I think it's a date! :D
i have heard that the theaters are coingout with buttons soyou can call if you are being disturbed by other patrons - haven't seen it yet but it should cut down on teens on cell phones, although all of my cell phone and other disturbances in the movies have been with people well over the age of 21.
Hopefully people paying $18 for a movie ticket won't be making noise during the film.
It's not in the theater now, but we watched Mr. Brooks over the weekend. It was a fantastic psychological thriller! An unusual role for Kevin Costner, but good nonetheless.
Not a new one either, I watched "Center Stage" with daughter Lisa yesterday. I rarely watch a movie, so this was an "event". 8)
We had here lots of movies making there debut at the movie theartre on boxing day. One I am looking forward too is "The Golden Compass" Another is a re-make of the Omega Man that had originally Charlton Heston in, "I am Legend" with Will Smith.

Last night we watched a DVD, boxing day sales are awesome for discount DVD's. " Constantine " with Keanu Reeves, unusal movie but enjoyed it. He is a spunky hunk so anything he appears in is AWWWWWW
I saw Enchanted recently and it's really good! :) It's cute and funny and you don't have to be young to enjoy it.

Of course, I spent Christmas day watching The Christmas Story over and over again.
We went to see P.S. I Love you on Saturday night. We both thought it was pretty good. It was not what I was expecting, but it was quite enjoyable just the same.

I want to see National Treasure and I Am Legend, too. I'd also like to see Charlie Wilson's War, but may wait for the DVD on that one.

I don't think I've even heard about Juno. :?

Robbie is NOT a fan of Johnny Depp, so I'll have to see Sweeny Todd with a girlfriend.
We went to the movies!

It's been sooooooooooooo long, and the experience was eeeexcellent except having to buy the tix in person and not in advance. The alcohol thing, I guess.

I thought that the movie was just OK. The plot was a little weak but the acting was OK and it was enjoyable. But there was absolutely no talking and nobody made any noise eating their dinners all around us. Seating is reserved. The seats weren't as nice as they used to be, but they are still excelent. Free popcorn and free soda, and we saw the Matinee for $13 a ticket. How much is a bag of popcorn (a little bigger than a lunchbag, I'd say, though I don't think there was a limit) and a soda at the theater? $5? $6? So it really is a bargain if you normally would have some popcorn and a drink anyway.

What a pleasure. Maybe we'll even go back again!

LOL - I was wondering the same thing!

My kids went and saw it tonight too - they said it was good. I LOVED the 1st one, so I may actually have to go see it in a theatre with Todd. :D
$13 included a meal?? Holy cow - that's a bargin!! 8)
The $13 includes the movie, nice seats, an adult audience and free popcorn and soft drinks.

Other food is more.

Just got home from seeing this. John and I really enjoyed it. There were kids in the theater- but not a peep from any of them. :)

Dinner was a different story. Went to a family restaurant- and kids were screaming and crying all around us. We love kids, so, it was not a big deal for us. You get that when you go to that type of place. I overheard a lady at the next table say she wished they had " Kids and no kids" sections , like smoking and non smoking. :D :D
brian and i went and saw I am Legend....it was okay but it made me realize a few things...

1. i have no secure hiding spot ''just in case''

2. i look just like the zombie things... :?

3. i need to train panda better ''just in case''
I also watched the DVD , The Family Stone, with daughter Lisa. I had never watched it - worthy of several tissues!
:D I'm working my way through old and new DVD's. We're at #5 of Henry VIII Six Wives (the old version with Keith Mitchel) Willoughby goes to sleep and snores! Also watched Constantine, definitely odd, but good. 8)
We decided to go out and eat after all last night and catch a movie.
John's turn to pick- and we saw " The Dewey Cox Story" Ugh.

John laughed and I chuckled- it was just a silly stupid movie. But I did find myself having a good time. Kind of nice to just relax your mind sometimes. OH- and there were two shots of men in the nude. I mean ALL of their "personality" was hanging! 8O

That was my favorite part. 8) :D :D :D
We took my nephew to see National Treasure. We all enjoyed it. It was a good movie to take a 13 year old to.

I think a movie is good if it keeps my attention and I have some laughs so on that note it was good.
Saw Sweeney Todd and really liked it. I'm a huge Alan Rickman fan and my friend loves Johnny Depp. You can tell it was a Broadway show and the singing wasn't up to Broadway standards but decent. Tomorrow I'm seeing National Treasure. I want to see Atonement. Watched an oldie over the holidays "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" with Alec Guiness. 6 hours of British spy stuff!
We are Marshall, wonderful!
